Leica Akademie Workshops

Argh... I knew I should have gone (in Vancouver).

For some reason I discarded the idea when I saw mention of the M9 (I'm not particularly interested in diving more in to digital), but I would have loved to learn more about lens selection and so on.

It's worth going to if you're new to Leicas or new to their modern lenses and so forth. Plus, it's always useful meeting the sales rep who may be able to help further down the line.

I was going to get an M8, but looked at budget and then settled on a used M8 for now. I'll get a couple of lenses for it then get an M9.

As one of the attendees at Saturday's workshop in Denver, I'll second Andy Piper's review. The information that Tom Smith presented taught me about features I hadn't used with my M8: For example, exposure compensation selection with the scroll wheel.

Even if one doesn't own an M9, the workshop is a great learning opportunity.

My only negative feedback to Leica is the lack of timely notification about the location and time for the workshop, mentioned in earlier posts for multiple cities. I received an email on Wednesday, finally disclosing the time and location for the Saturday workshop. I emailed Leica New Jersey on September 8 and October 20 for information. The response was basically "we don't know yet."
