Constable Posted September 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear all, i don't know if I am being exceptionally dense here, but I can't seem to find an answer to this in the manual. I usually use sequential filling of the cards. Is there any way to define whether the CF or SD card should be used first? Thanks in advance Ed

Thanks in advance Ed Ed, The CF card is always filled first in sequential mode. There is no way to change the order. David
Constable Posted September 2, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted September 2, 2010 Thanks David, That was my empirical observation! So I guess if I only have a laptop and no card reader with me (OK ... so sometimes I forget to take it, I admit it) the best way is to take the CF card out. No great deal ... it is just that there is a hint in the manual by the use of the word "generally" "If you have set Parallel and both file formats (see p. 28), the DNG data is generally written to the CF card and the JPEG data to the SD/SDHC card." that there might be some hidden control function. Thanks for your prompt reply Ed

No great deal ... it is just that there is a hint in the manual by the use of the word "generally" "If you have set Parallel and both file formats (see p. 28), the DNG data is generally written to the CF card and the JPEG data to the SD/SDHC card." that there might be some hidden control function. Thanks for your prompt reply Ed Ed, No problem. The manual leaves much to be desired. For Parrallel recording the DNG is always written to the CF card and the JPG is always written to the SD card if you are set to DNG+JPG. If you are only set to DNG, the camera defaults to Sequential recording going to the CF card, filling it, then writing to the SD card. If you won't have access to a CF reader, just pull the CF and the camera will write the DNG fi.es to the SD card. Because of the size of the files from the S2, CF cards really are a better option. Faster write speeds (60-90 MB/s vs. 20-30 MB/s) and larger capacities (up to 64GB). Also, CF cards download much, much faster when using a FW800 or ExpressCard reader. Perhaps Leica was just trying to encourage the use of CF cards. David
