Dear all,

have been shooting Delta for a few weeks and the results, developed in DDX are really nice and smooth, and I can achieve consistent results.

I have another roll shot at 100asa (box speed) and am thinking of developing it in Rodinal this afternoon.

The reason being I am after a bit more contrast and bite, maybe a bit harsher look.

My question is will using Rodinal give me this or what should I expect to see different than having developed in DDX?

I will do it anyway, but am just curious if I am on the right track in terms of expectations.

thanks for any input

I do not know about gritty, because Delta looks pretty grainfree in Rodinal (for Rodinal i mean) . You will get clean, contrasty and sharp pictures. I can't say how they compare to DDX because i never tried that.

I will probably also go back to Delta for the simple reason it dries absolutely flat and that makes all the difference scanning with a V700. I might try Delta 400 in Rodinal for a bit more grain in the near future.

Here are some testshots, nothing special, but it probably gives an impression how Delta looks in Rodinal.

I developed 1:50 for 13 minutes @ 20C. First minute constant inverting, after that 2 inversions at beginning of each minute.

Good luck Andy. Show us your results.

Delta 100 in Rodinal is a nice combination. I don't think you'll get the "grittyness" you're looking for, as JB pointed out, Delta 100 is a pretty smooth film. Maybe look at a faster "conventional" (not T-grain) film in Rodinal for that. As for contrast, as suggested, increasing development will accomplish that nicely.

Here's a pic taken with Delta 100 and Rodinal from a few years back:

My times were around 11 min at 68 at 1:50. Grain was small but distintive. I got a nice tonal scale.

1:25 gave larger mushyier grain. 5 minutes at 68. Add 10% for diffusion enlarger. Suntract 10 for scanning.

1:100 gives a but more grain than 50 with a loss of some film speed.

Actually you can get the same to similar effects with D76, stock, 1:1, and 1:3. 1:3 is 16 minutes. Sharp obvious grain but it is small.

Delta 400 will give the worst grain in anything but DDX or

xtol.
