andrekeli Posted August 26, 2010 Share #1  Posted August 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys,  Hello, my name is Andre n I am from Jakarta, Indonesia... just got my X1 this afternoon after a few weeks of sleepless nights of research n deliberations ( i mean, who doesn't consider the price, oh well at least I did ).. sold a few of my previous gears... little sad to let 'em go but happy to finally got my hand of this artful piece of technology...  well, juz wanna say "hi" for now and use this time to share this pic of mine with u all to mark the start of my journey with the X1...  This was the first pic I ever took as I was testing my unit at the store. I coined it "The Seven Dwarfs in Disneyland" ( u will see why in the pic .. dun forget to count too )... it was purely a random shot with no intentional framing, no setting done whatsoever... I only realized that it was a moment when I got home as I was playing around w it in the Lightroom...  makes me kinda think how true it is that photography is like the Disneyland, where fantasy meets reality... wat a moment, wat a wishful thinking to send me off with my new cam... i hope tat to be a revelation of what is to come ( I came a long long way from many different worlds to finally arrive at Leicaland ) ...  my first impressions: speechless... luv it!  certainly hope to get to u know u all n to learn from all of u Leica experts...  Cheers... wda Posted August 26, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted August 26, 2010 Welcome to the Forum, Andrekeli! You certainly use a well-stocked shop though I can't see very many Leicas in your picture! Â I am sure our Moderator will urge you to post future X1 pictures in one of the Photo Forum threads where many more members lurk. Â I hope your initial enjoyment lasts well into the future. Jakarta Photography Center... it's the only one shop that carries Leica brand that I know of...it's situated almost in a different planet from where i live across the city but it was all worth the trip n fighting through the rush-hour traffic of jakarta...  sure... will do so... i m new in the forum as well so still groping my way around... thx for the advice...  i sure hope so it blossoms into an M dream... phancj Posted August 27, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted August 27, 2010 Hey welcome! Â I like your shop, the colors have a film-like feel...to think it is your first shot!

h00ligan Posted August 27, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted August 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Film like feel because the color is drastically off. It's a fine shot, but to me any feel is generated with bad awb or post processing. This comment is irrelevant to the x1 on a whole, the shot looks halfway crossed processed and that gives the film feel IMO.

Could well be though it could be screen calibration too...but I must say it has a different look, deliberate or not?  Anyway the raw files for the X1 is so good we can PP any which way:D  The X1 sensor/lens combo creates a nice and distinct look, in my opinion. Lately I have been comparing pics from this camera with the M8 and my Nikon and it is 3 totally different looks...very interesting...
andybarton Posted August 27, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted August 27, 2010 If it's a shot taken in the shop during the purchase process, it's bound to be set at the wrong settings.

But the colors remind me of some of my old prints, like 2 decades ago?
andrekeli Posted August 27, 2010 Author Share #11 Â Posted August 27, 2010 thk u for the comments...appreciate them... hope to learn frm u all... Â yes, this shot was sorta accident... i was juz tryin the shutter (a shop procedure)...i turned around and juz took it aimlessly... setting was all all-auto i guess (or watever factory setting was)... i realized this was a fun shot when i got home though... Â i changed the tone a bit in Lightroom (using one of those preset tones..can't remember exactly the name now), kinda matching my relieved mood (i.e. the purchase process was over...). i love the retro look of the image... (Leica RAW took abuses in Lightroom very well) .... I had spent a few weeks researching n contemplating to switch "religion" .. i came a long way... konica minolta, canon, fuji, panny, n latest sony... nothin excites me like Leica did... first, I bought DLux4... tried it, 3 days later here i was with X1 Â browsing thru the pics i took, the gallery here n else where, i love the feel of images captured in Leica... to me, it gives a sorta 3D look to the image... very nice shadowing job by the sensor n lens.... so it feels real, feels genuine not artificial feature-show-off kind... this, i never got from my previous gears...they all look flat and tasteless IMHO... Â so...this morning i juz placed a reservation for my M9... Â luv it...!!!

Generally it appears that the default settings for LCDs is too cool, after calibration colors are warmer.

phancj Posted August 28, 2010 Share #15 Â Posted August 28, 2010 thanks phancj... Â No probs:) Â Come to think of it that could be the reason why the shot taken seems yellowish, could be you adjusted based on your screen, which was not as warm as it should be so you overcompensated? Â hmm... i used a lightroom preset tone. was juz messing w the software, no compensation done on my part (later maybe as i get more acquainted w the software). i left it yellowish to give it a retro look ( it gave me a warm feeling inside juz lookin at the pic )... Â but i m curious whether my screen is well-calibrated or not. am looking at the spyder calibration. Â thx
