Steve Ash Posted September 4, 2010 Share #41 Posted September 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The fact that I am seeing is that this rumor is kept alive by always the same people who show up just before the topic would have been settled out and refuel the fire. Just consider the fact that the MP and M7 is still in current production as is the a-la-carte program. What do you think would be the next step at Leica to slowly discontinue film camera production? Do you honestly believe they would reduce it to the a-la-carte program with more than 1000 alternative options? That is ridiculous. Cost-wise it would change nothing. So why shouldn't they keep the situation as it is? Regards Steve

ho_co Posted September 4, 2010 Share #42 Posted September 4, 2010 Good point, Steve! Rangefinderforum first posted it on Jun 21 (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91644), TOP more than two months later on Aug 24 (The Online Photographer: A Grand 85 Years It Was). Hey, it's usually Andy P who does the sleuthing work, but it's interesting that the tweet and the BJP article both appeared on the same date and are so similarly worded, isn't it? Anybody know what time zone twitter uses to stamp its posts? If it's US time, Andy started this thread before the tweet. If it's German time, Andy posted his link to the BJP article a little more than four hours after it. Of course, far be it from me to imply that BJP would be Underaglassbell. bill Posted September 4, 2010 Share #44 Posted September 4, 2010 Hey, it's usually Andy P who does the sleuthing work, but it's interesting that the tweet and the BJP article both appeared on the same date and are so similarly worded, isn't it? ...maybe because it's the same source!!!! This reminds me about the line from the original Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, about the guy who conclusively proved that black is white and went on to be killed on a zebra crossing... adan Posted September 5, 2010 Share #45 Posted September 5, 2010 Confirmation bias: Confirmation bias - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A person predisposed to believe one thing will consider a quote of a Leica CEO in one source to be accurate. A person predisposed to believe the opposite will consider a quote of a Leica spokesperson in another source to be accurate. A Doubting Thomas will avoid preconceptions and give extra weight to evidence that tends to go AGAINST his own preconceptions, precisely to avoid biased thought. Thomas is the one person in The Book with enough brains and intellectual honesty to, perhaps, actually be worthy of worship. As I recall, at least one european on this forum was adamant in denying the likelihood of the M9 a year ago August, to the point where he cast serious (and racially tainted) aspersions on the honesty and motives of a Vietnamese (among others) who was able to leak some details. As it turned out, the Vietnamese source was absolutely accurate, and the person insisting an "M9 was impossible," preferring his preconceptions to published evidence, turned out to have his head, well, where the sun never shines. ho_co Posted September 5, 2010 Share #46 Posted September 5, 2010 Bravo, Andy, good analysis as usual! Citing Christian myth is particularly apropos in this case IMO, if for no other reason than that in fact both the Asahi Camera and the BJP reports may be equally accurate without contradiction. So many of the questions asked here are actually answered in the individual sources, but a lot of us posters simply take the headlines and run from there. Easy mistake to make, but as you say, we all come with prejudices that we need to work to overcome. Really a fun thread! Amazing how it goes and goes, and mostly in circles! ho_co Posted September 5, 2010 Share #47 Posted September 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) ... the guy who conclusively proved that black is white and went on to be killed on a zebra crossing... Ah, the inadequacies of reason when dealing with matters of belief! You could cite Socrates as well, who said IIRC the only thing he knew was that he knew nothing. Subversive guy, that one. Those who "knew better" demanded his suicide. Or remember Huston Smith's story of being asked by his Zen master, "Does a dog have Buddha nature?" He worked for days or weeks on the response, and each time he responded, his guide told him that his answer was too Western. Finally, after a number of tries, he reached the right answer, viz, "It doesn't matter."
