I sure disagree with this. You may see similar quality in "normal" prints when the images were taken under ideal conditions, particularly the lighting. But many people capture images under less than ideal conditions, and that's where you begin to consciously notice the differences. And even when you don't notice differences consciously, your brain still sees them, and it makes a difference in long-term satisfaction.

 

I couldn't agree more. You could shoot landscapes with an lx3 and print just fine.. if you want more creative control over DOF or lower light shots, mft clearly trails asp-c

 

Beats eating the grass........................... back to the topic. Cosina/ Voigtlander stuff is primarily made with the Japanese market in mind so I don't know why people outside that market get their knickers in a knot.

 

So you are saying that it's catering to the Japanese people or Japanese market in terms of camera manufacturers.. either way, I don't think I agree. I'm not sure how one would develop a lens for a country of people, and CV has a lot of other glass out.. so could you clarify, I must have missed something.

I also looked at the mft and with the lower prices, faster AF for the panasonic, interchangeable lenses, etc etc it is hard to ignore. But in the end for a portable cam I bought the X1 coz the sensor is better, it is smaller, etc. I really think they should shrink the mft much further to compete.

phan ........ time for you to grow up and hit the reality button canon employs about 20 odd thousand personal Panasonic sit well over 300,000 thousand plus. revenue difference chalk and cheese. No use responding to you as your reasoning is in the dream world you live in.

David I am sure that Panasonic engineers did not go the 4/3 way in order to lose out in the marketplace to samsung and sony.

 

Out of curiosity just took a quick look at panasonic and globally, their balance sheets are in the red and not so rosy for at least the last two years. MEanwhile Nikon and Canon appears to be well in the black, and even Leica is at the moment. So your argument of the financial might of panasonic does not hold water.

 

There is a case sometimes of smaller companies being more nimble in a bad economy. So no, panasonic is not in a position right now to buy over other companies like you suggested, they need to get their act together to stay afloat. The bigger they are, they worse the fall. Worldcomm, Enron, etc comes to mind.

 

I am also sure that Panasonic engineers did not want to lose, but in life sometimes much as you do not want to, you still lose.

 

And now I see you as a sad case of blabber mouth not backed by facts, and am sure that with your attitude you are unlikely to have much success life given the string of people you offend along the way. I wish you well.

I don't know how this thread got so acrimonious in places. The original post was just about a lens announcement, ffs!

 

Since sensors crossed the 5mp limit I don't give a toss about the size of my sensor, it is the functionality and handling of the camera which is important to me. I'd also add that in the case of purchasing a GF-1, the offer a 3-year warranty (wake up Leica!) also helped me in my decision making.

 

You think all those great photographers of the past and those of the present actually sit around debating the benefits of their camera technology over each other? I doubt it.

Yea but this is a camera forum for camera owners not photographers, that's why whenever a thread is started about photography it either dies or turns into a gear frenzy. Gear talk gets boring so i go fishing instead.
