Guest xCorpsman Posted August 25, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted August 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just returned from an evening out and discovered that the rubber eyepiece on my Leica 36mm Brightline Viewfinder is missing. Upon examining the plastic that was once covered by the eyepiece, I could see a couple of traces of glue. Also, while handling the Viewfinder I realized that the rattlingsound I've been hearing while handling my camera is due to a loose rear element in the Viewfinder. Â Any advice? Should I return the product to Leica directly and seek a refund? 350.00 USD is far too much to pay for such shoddy workmanship.

h00ligan Posted August 26, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted August 26, 2010 I doubt they'll offer a refund, but that's a sad story. I'm sure they will repair it though.. but again, quality control!

andybarton Posted August 27, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted August 27, 2010 Send it back to Leica and ask for an immediate replacement.
tobey bilek Posted August 27, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted August 27, 2010 This is probably not made by German craftsmen like the old days. Â So it is $300 for the Leica name, 25 for shipping and handling, 25 for materials & labor in China or some such place. Â Made by Greman craftmen would have made it $375 so you see a cost savings. Are you not happy? Â Seriously, from now on, if you want a cheapo, just buy a Samsung in the first place and save the $300 for the Leica name, warehousing, shipping and handleing. Guest xCorpsman Posted August 27, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted August 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The OVF is in fact made in Japan. Â I returned the item to my local dealer to be forwarded to Solms for repair. I also wrote Leica to express my concern. It's a shame, I am happy with the camera on the whole but very disappointed in the plastic viewfinder.

Hope it'll get fixed soon.  Btw, the casing of the VF is in metal. At least, it feels that way when I knock it lightly with my fingernail.
nippa Posted August 29, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted August 29, 2010 Quote... Btw, the casing of the VF is in metal. At least, it feels that way when I knock it lightly with my fingernail. ...... Â It feels like a hard plastic resin to me too! Tap it with your teeth and see if you still think it's metal. Â BTW , the rubber eyepiece was not glued on mine and came away when I tried to remove it from its leather case. I'd inadvertently put the viewfinder in the wrong way round and was tugging to pull it out. Yes , the viewfinder only fits Leica's grey case one way round. Confused? I was. tbutt Posted August 29, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted August 29, 2010 Also, while handling the Viewfinder I realized that the rattlingsound I've been hearing while handling my camera is due to a loose rear element in the Viewfinder. Â Yeah. I' m also hearing that sound when I shake the VF. Sounds like something inside is loosen...still think it's a quick 'n' dirty solution as they found out thats there's no space for an internal VF. For me I would have expected more than that... Guest xCorpsman Posted September 8, 2010 Share #11 Â Posted September 8, 2010 Well, I just heard back from my dealer, Leica have replaced my OVF and it is waiting for me at the store. Â I would have loved to have it on a recent trip to Ireland. The OVF makes it so much easier to steady the camera.
