Does in camera processing eliminate the need for lens profiles in LR3?

Does anyone know if the M9 in-camera processing eliminates the need for lens correction (i.e. specific M lens profiles) in LR3 ( or any other software package)?

Along the same line as Leica specific profiles, anyone with thoughts on using x-rite colorchecker to create camera profiles? If one adjusts clarity, sharpness, exposure, noise on top of those profiles does it alter color in the image?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob. For the M9, there is no in camera correction in DNG nor JPEG for lens aberrations. Leica Camera's philosophy is to make the corrections in the glass on the front :)

The lens profile options do not appear to be especially useful for Leica lenses but of course they were not invented with Leica lenses in mind.

The color checker target is the way to make camera specific profiles. To do it the same way Adobe does you need to illuminate the target with 6500K for one shot and 2850K for another and use the profile maker of course. You can edit the result if desired. A camera profile is about colour rendition but can not include adjustments for the other values that you mention.

If you want to apply standard adjustments for clarity, sharpening, noise reduction etc, you can do that by making pre-sets and applying those as desired. If you alter contrast or saturation it will affect colour of course but it does not invalidate the profile colour rendition. Adobe's profiles have evolved and are very sophisticated.
