After some calls and some tests, I succeeded to make it work. I can now trigger with my M9 a couple of Canon Speedlites by using a PocketWizard MiniTT1.

Don't understand why you think it's a rare combination ? They work straight out of the box and been using them for a long time.

I use a 580 in the hot shoe of my M9 occasionally and/or a pair Pocket Wizards to fire the 580 and up to three studio lamps.

Pocket Wizards are just very reliable radio triggers and receivers. No wires and freedom to move around. Works perfectly. :)

Why the choice of the term "rare"? Here's the set up I wrote about a while back:

You state that you can trigger all the Canon strobes in your bag. What would be rare and worth noting is how you set off a 580 EX(not II) which does not have a PC sync plug.

Hi,

The reactions I got at PocketWizard on the idea of using the Canon MiniTT1 (which is brand specific) in combination with my M9 gave me the impression that there are not many people using such a setup. That is why I used the term "rare".

BTW. I have a PocketWizard MiniTT1 on the camera, FlexTT5's for the speedlites, two Canon 580 EX II and one 430 EX II. This combination work fine when the MiniTT1 and FlexTT5's are properly configured.

Cheers,

BJ

There is a fine old German saying: Warum einfach wenn es kann so schön kompliziert sein? Why make it simple when it can be so beautifully complicated?

With my Summiluxes, I can handle most light levels I find interesting. Very occasionally I use a SF24D off camera. A common shoe-to-foot "system" cable works just fine, sich as a Nikon SC15 or 17. The Nissin SC01 even lets me use an accessory finder because the shoe part has an extra shoe on top.

In my vanity, I regard myself as a photographer and not an electrician.

Lars, really, you do really crack me up sometimes :)

But your setup is only "simple" if you don't need to move very much.

If you need to move with your subjects, the pocket wizards are infinitely more simple than any cable, and they have the virtue of working every time without any concern for connection problems, bending or other cord-prone woes.

Oh, and photographers augment light when they need to.... or create good light where there's only bad light. That makes them photographers, not electricians...and with PWs you're no longer playing with a bunch of wires and moving stands...

As for OP's suggestion that using PocketWizards and Ms is rare, it's true PocketWizard as a company might not have a clue about how many of us use their "Canon-specific" gear with Leica equipment. But it works very well indeed (in manual mode), and on this forum, anyway, is quite common.
