While talking about keeping my setup small and simple it kind of happend that I won an auction for a 110mm/2.0 Hassy without expecting it.

Well, now I wonder when I receive my 120 Summarit and the 110 how different they draw-then I need to see if I keep the 110 or not.

I just liked thislens so much with my Rollei System.

I now need to also get an adapter, want to find out if Novoflex also makes it and how that compare to the Korean version.

Tom,

Novoflex doesn't make any adapters for the S2 at this point. We sell the adapters for $600 and test each one to ensure a good, smooth fit and verify that infinity focus is spot on.

In the coming months, Leica will be making official adapters but haven't announced any pricing yet.

I have not seen any discussion of the following; please forgive me if my search did not uncover.

But with the S2 and the adapter for Hasselblad V-Series lenses, it seems to me that managing the aperture is something of a problem. It is pretty clear that the adapter ring does no more than provide a male/female interface between the bayonette rings of the camera and the lens which otherwise would not mate. There is no other mechanical or electrical function. So, this means that there is no control of the aperture from the camera to the lens.

Therefore, the user has a choice of using the lens wide open or using the tab on the side of the lens to stop down the aperture. On the CF lenses that I have, the tab will either stop down the aperture if you just press and hold the tab or you can lock the tab so that the aperture is always stopped down to the setting of the aperture ring on the barrel of the lens.

Neither is satisfactory. I don't want to be shooting wide open all the time, nor do I want to be fiddling with the aperture tab when I am taking a shot. Nor do I want it stopped down to my shooting aperture when I am metering or composing through the lens.

Am I missing something?

That is how all dumb adapters work for any focal plane camera. You can use Hassy V lenses on a Contax 645, Mamiya 645 & Phase One DF, and a Leica S2 ...or most any 35mm DSLR.

The only fully automatic stop-down metering and shooting non-V camera that you can use a CF, CFi or CFE V Zeiss lens on is the Hasselblad H camera via the CF adapter. All the rest require manual stop-down metering and shooting.

Most people (not all) use the 200 series F/FE lenses with dumb adapters ... and many go for the 110/2FE

and shoot it wide open or below f/5.6 for the unique character of that lens.

The viewfinder of the S2 is so bright that when shooting with a non-S lens, often I won't disengage the stop down lever. You can easily focus as far down as f/8. And, to add to what Marc said, usually you are shooting a lens like the 110 f/2 between f/2 and f/4 or maybe f/5.6 in order to achieve a certain look.

Kurt, thanks for sharing.

I really like your documentary/reportage style. It's interesting to see this subject matter (travel/people/human interest) being done with an S2.

BTW, I saw your work also on getdpi and on reddot. It's good to see your personal style of shooting carried over to the Philippines.

Hi Frank,

It's the T* version. You can use either the F or the FE version of the Hasselblad 110/2 lens on the S2 via adapter. The FE version has contacts for use with a Hasselblad camera but the contacts have no bearing on function on the S2.
