andybarton Posted August 4, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted August 4, 2010 There's a button on the hand grip that you push in, then slide the grip part down off the rest of the body.
stunsworth Posted August 4, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted August 4, 2010 The button is a silver metal slider on the bottom of the camera. Slide it and the handgrip should slide off. Note that the grip can sometimes be rather stiff.

stunsworth Posted August 17, 2017 Share #7 Â Posted August 17, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's a great camera though and I'm sure that I can live with this annoyance but it would be nice to be able to remove the cover without any problem! Â Â It's the best SLR body I've ever used - I preferred it to the SL that I also once had. Ergonomically it's superb, it may look bulky but everything falls into place. masjah Posted August 17, 2017 Share #8 Â Posted August 17, 2017 R8s and R9s (including my own) are sometimes susceptible to this - I've never understood why, though it's more of a nuisance than anything else. Here's my technique, FWIW. Remove lens and fit body dust cap. Hold the camera with both hands, against your chest, base away from you, top against your chest, front uppermost. Hold the catch open with your right index finger, carefully insert your left thumbnail between the battery cover and the bottom of the chrome decorative strip, and push down. This usually gets it started, then it's fine. Personally I wouldn't use a knife blade, as the chrome strip is easily damaged.
