Advertisement Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Hi JanCderidder, Take a look here Settings for X1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest badbob Posted August 3, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2010 when shooting Jpegs do you use a set of single settings, as in creating a personal style, or do you adjust the setting according to the subject? The settings that are available on the buttons and knobs I change frequently, according to the situation. That would be aperture, shutter, manual/auto focus, and EV. Not so often do I set WB or ISO. Settings that are only on the menu I almost never change. Leica with the X1 made a near-perfect design in allocating buttons etc., so everything that needs changed often is there on the buttons and knobs. BB W Posted August 3, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 3, 2010 So far, which is not too far, I really have only used the jpegs to try out the in camera black and white settings, but I'd still use different settings for depending upon the scene, as badbob wrote. Generally speaking in RAW, or if I were using jpeg, I would tend use aperture preferred, allowing the camera to set the shutter speed, and often have the camera set to Auto ISO. However, this is such a new camera that I've been trying out manual exposure and various other combinations to try to understand better how things work. I also leave it on Auto White Balance, as well...figuring I can correct things later.
Guest badbob Posted August 4, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 4, 2010 I and many others are hoping against hope that the firmware update coming (someday) will add ISO to the preview screen. Until then you'll have to do test shots and see how they look. I've found the screen OK to judge color and contrast, but very difficult to judge sharpness. BB W Posted August 4, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 4, 2010 I certainly can't judge sharpness via the screen - I wear progressive lenses and it's tough for me to see, that's why I really need auto focus unless I had a split screen and tons of time for a photo. I definitely need to go out and select a scene or set up one and get a better feel for the depth of field along with the focus point to see how thing work. It's either that or choose f 8 and up, I guess. So far, I am very pleased but need to take a lot more photographs to become really at home with the X1. I'm looking forward to spending more time doing this soon.
