vicpeh Posted August 1, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Just bought a 46mm B+W rubber hood for my 75mm Summarit M but it just can't seem to fit onto the lens. The hood's screw threads cannot lock onto the lens filter threads. The lens does say E64 filter thread size!?! Do I have to spend the $$$ for the original Leica hood? Will the same thing apply to filters; only Leica UV filters??? TIA!

Nicoleica Posted August 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 1, 2010 Hi. Yes, 46mm is the correct filter size for the lens, and so you should have no trouble with non-Leica filters. I've been looking at the drawings of the lens construction, and I'm wondering if the rubber hood may not fit because it is fouling on the protection ring for the Leica hood threads, and therefore cannot reach the filter threads properly. A normal filter should not have a problem, as it will fit inside of the ring. But a rubber hood is normally thicker than a normal filter and might have a problem here. If you fit a filter to the lens, the hood should then screw onto that OK. Otherwise, try unscrewing the protection ring, and see if that solves the problem. You'll have to be careful not to damage the exposed threads without the protection ring though, but your rubber hood should help there. In case my explanation is a bit confusing, perhaps this drawing from the Leica technical data will help explain my thinking.
