Walt Calahan Posted August 1, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 1, 2010 Sandisk makes great products. Transcend makes excellent CF and SD cards as well.
bman Posted August 1, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 1, 2010 Has anyone tried the Sandisk 16Gb class 10 cards in the M9? Any thoughts on this card? Thanks I have been using the Sandisk 16GB Class 10 without any problems, so far. The other card is a Transcend 16GB Class 10. Both flawless. In any case, never had any problem with any SD card on my M9, even the Nikon labeled Toshiba Class 4 8GB
01af Posted August 1, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 1, 2010 Has anyone tried the SanDisk 16 GB Class 10 cards in the M9? Any thoughts on this card? This card is working just fine in the M9—except it's not particularly fast, unlike a Class 10 card should be. In fact, a cheap Verbatim SDHC Class 4 card is no slower. However I believe that's not the card's fault but the M9's poor card interface's. Maybe things will get better with the next firmware update which is expected to be released next week; it's supposed to address SD card compatibility issues (among other things). bman Posted August 1, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 1, 2010 Does not matter much, but transfer rate to the computer is faster for Class 10 cards, i presumed. Especially if you have sizeable number of DNGs, and cant wait too long to review the nice photos from the M9!
AlanJW Posted August 1, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I also have Sandisk 16G class 10 and a Transcend 16G class 10. Both ave been just fine. The class 10 does appear much snappier than my class 6 8G cards (also Sandisk and Transcend) getting images off the card into computer, but this is subjective as I have made no measurements. Tom M Posted August 2, 2010 Share #8 Posted August 2, 2010 There have been numerous reports of card failures in the M9 on this forum. I recently had two cards fail - a 2GB and an 8 Gb Sandisk Ultra. However, only the latter was used in the M9 (the other in a D-LUX 2). I traced the problem to a defective USB plug card reader. Perhaps, another item to consider in case of erratic card behaviour. T. tele_player Posted August 2, 2010 Share #9 Posted August 2, 2010 Tom M. - That's an interesting observation - after failing, did the cards work correctly in your card reader? Could they format, read and write correctly on your computer?
hoppyman Posted August 2, 2010 Share #10 Posted August 2, 2010 I bought 4 so far and have used them for around 1200 exposures in my M9 up to now. I have had no issues at all, before or after the current firmware version. I would add that it is important to ensure that you do get genuine cards as counterfeiting of them is common. Also I haven't observed any particular speed advantages from these cards and that camera as yet. That is a subjective impression of course. Part of my reason to pay for these over the Ultras was that a future firmware or camera may take more avantage from the Class 10 speeds.
Tom M Posted August 2, 2010 Share #11 Posted August 2, 2010 Tom M. -That's an interesting observation - after failing, did the cards work correctly in your card reader? Could they format, read and write correctly on your computer? The computer was unable to read the 2 Gb card from the D-Lux 2, but I was able to recover the images with Sandisk Rescue. The 8 Gb card from the M9 only behaved erratically, i.e. it would appear on the desktop only after several insertions of the USB slot reader. Both cards after formatting in the respective cameras appear to be recognized by the new reader (a "professional" USB2 cable unit), however I lack the confidence to use them for serious photography.
