ptarmigan Posted July 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) In another thread there has been a lot of discussion about M8 colour in C1 vs LR3 and it now got me thinking. I am relatively new to LR only having used it in earnest with LR3 beta and just recently purchased the full version. So, I see there are several camera calibration options in LR3: Process - 2010 or 2003 Profile - ACR 4.4, ACR 3.6, Adobe Standard, Camera Standard Selecting either Process variation render some minor changes but doing so with the Profile renders markedly different renditions, particularly Camera Standard. What's the right option here, what do you LR3 users use? I also have C1 which offers options with and without UV-IR. Nothing like this in LR3 and to my eye, images seem to have a slight pinkish tinge when shooting with the UV-IR attached and using LR3.
Advertisement Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Hi ptarmigan, Take a look here M8 colour profile for LR3. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
archi4 Posted July 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 28, 2010 Ian, Adobe Standard is the Lightroom standard profile for the RAW (in the case of M8 DNG) file which you are developing. On a Mac you will find the Adobe Standard Profiles for all Cameras at: HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Camera Raw/Camera Profiles Profiles which you make yourself using either the Adobe DNG Profile Editor or the X-rite Color Checker Passport will be saved to: User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Camera Raw/Camera Profiles Because I often did not like the skin tones produced by Lightroom (often too magenta/pink) I have made my own profiles using the above mentioned programs for my M8 files. By the way, the Camera Standard profile is less magenta, but too dark in my experience. One of the profiles I made using the Adobe DNG Profile Editor was made using Adobe Camera Standard as a departure point and reducing saturation and adjusting the curve of the profile. Should you be interested, I will gladly share all my profiles with you via e-mail. cheers Maurice

hoppyman Posted July 29, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2010 Ian applying the 2010 process uses better noise reduction especially. Find a high ISO underexposed image and change the process setting to 2010. You can see an immediate and significant improvement. ACR4.4 and ACR 3.6 are just legacy profiles that are kept because you may have earlier images that have used them. That is if you want to preserve those images exactly as they were at that point. No harm to try them of course but more than likely the latest (Adobe Standard) is the best. Camera Standard is intended to simulate the default JPEG settings in your camera. Typically higher contrast, more saturation and more likely to have clipping too. PM me if you would like to try the profile I made when I was shooting with my M8.
