Luigi case

Thanks for the replies. Ok, still difficult what to do but I get the point, the Luigi cases are a fine peace of art. I think a half case is not enough for me so first I will wait until I get a mail in September back from Luigi about the price.

When I am back from holiday I go in my country to a Leica shop and hope that they can show me the Leica X1 ready case.

I have a "normal Leica X1" case but I am going to sell that. I will share you the case I now use when you promise not to laugh :) It fit's my needs until now: a ready case but it is not perfect and far from good looking.

Oh, the back flap I can take down so I can get to the control buttons.

I promised not to laugh but I did smile. An unusual and clever recycling method!:D

Promise to let us all know when Luigi gets back to you about a full case for the X1. Enjoy your holiday and promise to take some photographs with that X1.

The Leica ERC works really well and in my view is better made than any Luigi case.

I 've seen so many good things said about Luigi's cases that I sometimes feel that I must be missing something.

Looking at his website the heavy gauge leather , bizarre colours and often uneven and course stitching put me right off.

Clearly it's partly a question of taste but I've not seen one Luigi product that I'd pay for.

Am I the only one who thinks like that?

You're on a Leica site thinking German precision. Think artisan, think Italian, think handmade, think old-world, think aged (pronounced age-id), think character as opposed to cookie cutter, think unique as opposed to cast. Imagine that old guy stitching those stitches by hand, because he does. If you look at the Leica X1 cases he makes he says he needs months to make them. Haha so so cool. Not many guys or places like that are left for any product anymore. They are oddly shaped brick-oven cooked loafs compared to the wonder bread of others (even Leica's half-case from people's reviews is Wonder bread it seems).

When I see his cases I think of what is it to work with love:

"It is to weave the cloth with threads drawn from your heart, even as if your beloved were to wear that cloth.

It is to build a house with affection, even as if your beloved were to dwell in that house.

It is to sow seeds with tenderness and reap the harvest with joy, even as if your beloved were to eat the fruit.

It is to charge all things you fashion with a breath of your own spirit,

And to know that all the blessed dead are standing about you and watching.

Often have I heard you say, as if speaking in sleep, "he who works in marble, and finds the shape of his own soul in the stone, is a nobler than he who ploughs the soil.

And he who seizes the rainbow to lay it on a cloth in the likeness of man, is more than he who makes the sandals for our feet."

But I say, not in sleep but in the over-wakefulness of noontide, that the wind speaks not more sweetly to the giant oaks than to the least of all the blades of grass;

And he alone is great who turns the voice of the wind into a song made sweeter by his own loving.

Work is love made visible.

And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.

For if you bake bread with indifference, you bake a bitter bread that feeds but half man's hunger.

And if you grudge the crushing of the grapes, your grudge distils a poison in the wine.

And if you sing though as angels, and love not the singing, you muffle man's ears to the voices of the day and the voices of the night."
