Light_Time Posted July 24, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I have a question. I got a few latest Leica lenses and just realised that there is a small double-digit number beside the "m" marking in the focal range on the lens. Please advise what the number means. Thank you. Advertisement Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Hi Light_Time, Take a look here Small marking in Leica lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
doubice Posted July 24, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 24, 2010 Denotes the exact focal length of the lens. If a 50mm lens is marked 43 for instance, you have a 54.3mm lens. Best, Jan

Leitz also marked the exact focal length in other places. On my 135mm f4.5 elmar, the exact focal length is scratched on the inside of the lens and is visible when the lens head is removed. Yes, This was done mainly on lenses with removeable heads - often just written in pencil. The focusing unit should have the same number written or scratched as well.
