I have tried to search, but when I do with "AF", then it brings up AF speed. Then When I do with "noise", it brings up ISO noise... So, I want to post a new thread for my question. I received my X1 yesterday and have noticed that AF noise is rather big. I was expecting slow AF, so AF speed is okay. I was expecting good high ISO noise, and I am happy with its high ISO capability. But I am not sure if this AF noise is normal. When you use AF, is the AF noise (when the camera is trying to focus) louder than your shutter click noise? The shutter click is very quiet, but I am wondering if the focusing noise is comparable to shutter click noise. I have a few other AF cameras, such as E-PL1, GRDIII, and small canon point and shoot, but all those cameras have quieter AF noise than that of x1. h00ligan Posted July 23, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 23, 2010 No, it's not loud when focusing for me. It''s really hard to say exactly how loud it is.. but..I'll try. It's a little vibration, then a slight click, then a slightly louder click of the shutter. I'd say if your focus action is louder than the shutter release, you have a problem. Sorry I just made a video for you to compare.. It's on a wobbly phone, but should work ok for the purposes. 'A comparison for those with loud focusing issues. The iphone recording was about 4 inches from the X1, I was about a foot from the iphone and speaking at a lower volume than average conversation (probably about 1/2 normal conversation db when one is out and around.' Since I am leaving for trip tomorrow, the best is to send it in once I get back from the trip... It's only the noise. The AF accuracy seems to be good, and speed is comparable to that I have seen on web videos. Anyway, thank you very much for your help. Mostly, I was concerned with the click like sounds while focusing. But I also hear in in your video, so maybe mine is normal. Thank you. Yes, it's a little coarse sort of rumble.. it's definitely not louder than the shutter on mine - that was shot again from 4 inches away. At arms length, I feel it more than I hear it. Let us know how it works out. By the way - that sound was greatly amplified by the wood table both it and the iphone were resting on.. and from 4 inches. It's pretty quiet to me!
