artur5 Posted January 3, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Before taking the plunge on to the M world again and selling all the DSLR stuff, I'm wondering the best way to use the M8 for macro and repro work. My current gear consists of a Canon 5D + manual bellows + enlarging lens ( Rodagon 50/2.8 and Componon 80/4 ) I figured out I could use a Visoflex III attached to the M8 + Leica bellows II and my enlarging lenses with adapter rings. But, being a newbie on the Visoflex world, I don't know if it's possible to attach M39 mount lenses into the bellows.( directly or with an adapter ring ). Anyway, as I know there are some Visoflex gurus amongst you guys, please give a hand on my last doubt.. Thanks in advance for your help.

larry Posted January 3, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 3, 2007 Arturo, Â I know some people use Ms for close-up work, but I can't understand why unless they just like a challenge. Although I love my M8, I don't think it's well suited for macro photography. Your Canon is really a much easier (and better, in my opinion) camera for this application. DaveEP Posted January 3, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 3, 2007 For macro, I really want to see though the lens.... and macro is one area I don't plan on using the M for. Â (D)SLRs do have some benefits, and this is one of them.
Vivek Iyer Posted January 3, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 3, 2007 I figured out I could use a Visoflex III attached to the M8 + Leica bellows II and my enlarging lenses with adapter rings. But, being a newbie on the Visoflex world, I don't know if it's possible to attach M39 mount lenses into the bellows.( directly or with an adapter ring ). Â You have already figured it out. Just get a Viso III and bellows (or one of the several dozen focus contraptions made by Leitz) and shoot away. Not many of dSLRs offer mirror lock up. So, it (RF plus Viso) is a better set-up unless you are into taking action macros of flies in flight and such (I almost never see any such thing from folks using a dSLR and a high speed automagic lens combination- most just snap sleepy insects). Â Have fun!
artur5 Posted January 3, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted January 3, 2007 I know it may seem absurd to use the M8 for macro but, If I go the DRF way I must sell all the SLR gear. I can't justify/afford keeping both SLR and RF systems. Of course the main use of the M8 won't be the macro stuff, only now and then for static on-tripod use, not for chasing butterflies.. The Visoflex solution should be way, way cheaper ( and more versatile ) than a Macro Elmar 90/4 and macro adapter. My only concern is the possible issues of mounting M39 enlarging lenses on the Leica bellows - some physical incompatibility or something.
mike prevette Posted January 3, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 3, 2007 Every Dslr I've owned has had a mirror lock up.
roubaix Posted January 3, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a similar issue in that I would like to use my M8 (on order for months now from Calumet) in my lab attached to my Leica microscope. Anybody have info on M-mount: C-mount adaptors? I did receive my 35 Cron/2.0, but it is only so much fun spinning the focus knob back and forth without a camera body! willemvelthoven Posted January 3, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 3, 2007 I have exellent result with a $ 150 visoflex + bellows from ebay. already used it on my R-D1 and continue on the M8. make sure you get a Visoflex III prism finder. The Visoflex II finder won't fit on the M8. Actually, a chimney finder is exellent too. Â using the viso with digital can be a very cheap and flexible set up. recommended!
