LCD light leak

I received my Leica X1 today, and after taking several pictures, I noticed light leak on the lower right side of my LCD screen (when the screen is black, yellow light seeps through on the right edge of the screen). This leak is very noticeable, even affecting the color of the pictures displayed on the screen.

Anyone else having (or had) this trouble?

I read on the canon forum (Re: G9 New owners & light leakage?: Canon Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review) that such problem is basically due to product defect.

Otherwise, the camera is beautiful. I'll have to call B&H or Leica tomorrow... I waited almost a month for this camera... Hopefully, they will replace it with a new one.

Not that it will help you to have a solitary response, but this is not something I notice. Can you take a picture of that which you see? Hopefully it's not a big deal to get you a replacement should that be necessary, sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Here's the picture of my X1 LCD screen with the light leak (lower right two-thirds of the screen). Took it with my iphone 4 (which is also giving me trouble due to antenna issues!).

Certainly with the Canon Products (my G9 in particular ) this was common and largely accepted as normal.

I can see a similar thing with both my GF-1 and X1 but nothing like the extent your photo shows.

I would return the camera.

Boh, welcome to the Forum! Sorry to hear about your defective LCD. While it should not seriously impair picture capture, it is an irritant that should be fixed. As the camera is so new, I would press for an immediate replacement.

I did the test to see the same as you. In my case with my eyes everything looks uniform, the iphone taking a shot of an lcd makes everything look washed out - but even with that occurring you can see the light distribution is uniform. I could of course re shoot the sample pic with a 7d, but that's overkill - I see no substantial light leak - at least with any color cast or from one area. Just standard LCD side lighting. Here is the sample, again, the iphone makes this look awful - but at least you can see no tint and uniformity. One quick afterthought - did you turn up the brightness of the lcd?

I tried to see if the brightness setting had any affect on the light leak, but it does not fix the problem. It is always from the lower right edge yellow light leaks out, creating a very annoying blurb on the LCD screen.

I just called B&H, and they could not request the system for a replacement, nor guarantee me the first one in stock. So I just requested for a full refund. Anyone know where I can order one?
