andybarton Posted July 15, 2010 Share #61 Posted July 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Below Post 53 - There's both aesop and M'Ate saying thanks. Are they all thanking one another repeatedly? No, they're thanking you. So be grateful (You know that they're thanking you, because the Thanks is immediately below your post)
Advertisement Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Hi andybarton, Take a look here New "Thanks" button.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted July 15, 2010 Share #62 Posted July 15, 2010 I think the bumping issue is more of an issue in the photo forum. Agreed. An OP in the Photo forum can bump a thread almost ad infinitum, just be un-necessarliy thanking every individual who posts a comment.
azzo Posted July 16, 2010 Share #63 Posted July 16, 2010 No, they're thanking you. So be grateful (You know that they're thanking you, because the Thanks is immediately below your post) Oh! ..... I am. ....... EDIT - Now that I see the 'real' reason for this Thanks button, Rolo was in fact 'accusing' or worse still, 'using' me of bumping my posts to get his point to others! .. Maybe Rolo would have liked mentioning others who REALLY take advantage by bumping back their own posts continuosly !!! .. IMHO, there's also another reason why someone would want to bump his post back to the top especially in the photo section. Say, you've just posted something new in the photo section and after a while, it's way down below simply because another came along and started his usual. ............ No need to continue. daveleo Posted July 16, 2010 Share #65 Posted July 16, 2010 Agreed. An OP in the Photo forum can bump a thread almost ad infinitum, just be un-necessarliy thanking every individual who posts a comment. would it be possible to negate the bump feature when it is the OP that is adding the comment ??? stunsworth Posted July 16, 2010 Share #66 Posted July 16, 2010 would it be possible to negate the bump feature when it is the OP that is adding the comment ??? Possibly, but I think it can be useful to have the 'bump' in the photo forum sometimes - for example if another respondant has asked the OP a question. However if all that's being posted is a "Thanks" type of comment, then the "Thanks button" is probably a better option.
biglouis Posted July 18, 2010 Share #67 Posted July 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Andreas, that's great, thanks for point it out. LouisB But to contradict myself (as per usual) I still think a 'Like' button would be far more useful than a 'Thanks' button. LouisB
bill Posted July 18, 2010 Share #68 Posted July 18, 2010 I'd just like the option to hide the things so that I don't get RSI in my scrolling pinky... Regards, Bill
graeme_hutton Posted July 19, 2010 Share #69 Posted July 19, 2010 Good idea that you can offer thanks without pushing your thread to the top I think. Regards Graeme
LeicaBraz Posted July 19, 2010 Share #70 Posted July 19, 2010 I would suggest a "Thanks but no thanks" button too.
allamande Posted July 19, 2010 Share #71 Posted July 19, 2010 An OP in the Photo forum can bump a thread almost ad infinitum, just be un-necessarliy thanking every individual who posts a comment. This assumes that the posts get comments from others "almost ad infinutum" which is absurd. You get however many comments you get (let's say n), and let's assume you thank each and every one. Then your thread has 2n posts, ultimately, and it gets bumped n times. What is the average number of comments any post gets on this (foto) forum? What is the standard deviation of the distribution? I am going to guess that it's a highly skewed distribution to begin with. So all this talk about "bumping" is probably highly overstated. Then the question is: why? what is the big deal about the OP thanking those who take the time to comment? And, who is to determine that thanking is "unnecessary" or "necessary"? Thank you. andybarton Posted July 19, 2010 Share #72 Posted July 19, 2010 All just my opinion. I don't think it's necessary to thank every poster individually. That's all I'm saying.
