andybarton Posted July 15, 2010 Share #41 Posted July 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Choice is overrated. Don't use it then. No one's forcing you to. It seems to me that people just like to moan about anything. They would moan about a button that said "Click here and collect €100", because the exchange rate isn't great at the moment... Advertisement Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Hi andybarton, Take a look here New "Thanks" button.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
digbyhp Posted July 15, 2010 Share #42 Posted July 15, 2010 I think it's a good enhancement. Thanks Andreas. I don't like posts getting repeatedly bumped to the top just because of the serial-thanking, so this will help. And as Andy says, it is optional. mhoersch Posted July 15, 2010 Share #43 Posted July 15, 2010 I would like to have a sarcastic thanks button... Seriously, I don't think we need buttons to express our thoughts or opinions. Please remove the Danke button.
ianman Posted July 15, 2010 Share #44 Posted July 15, 2010 Well, seeing that I have collected a couple It might improve social cohesion. Yeah, sorry about that. I mean it's not that I don't want to thank you for your overall sharing of knowledge but in this case I wanted to thank Andreas... not you :-) Ian
euston Posted July 15, 2010 Share #45 Posted July 15, 2010 What a priceless idea! A discussion forum with a shortcut button so that busy people can make their presence felt without actually having to join the discussion. Brilliant! It’s rather like sending your secretary out to choose a present for your spouse. It gets the job done after a fashion but it subverts the purpose of gift-giving and betrays a deficiency of genuine engagement in the process. Seriously, I don't think we need buttons to express our thoughts or opinions. Please remove the Danke button. My sentiments exactly, Manfred. I join you in calling for the Thanks button to be removed.

Please remove the Danke button. I´m glad to have it now! There are always two different opinions about that. There are also people still thinking that there s no need for digital cameras! With this type of deep thinking and philosophizing, the button is shown to be an essential gadget. No doubt about it. How about an button? That would save me a lot of time. azzo Posted July 15, 2010 Share #50 Posted July 15, 2010 Don't you want to be thanked when you're helpful? __________________ Andy I'd spend more time working out who hadn't thanked me often enough ! Would Azzo be prevented from multiple thanks. Then there's those with dual personalities. ;-) Maybe not a great idea after all. Folgender Benutzer sagt Danke zu rolo f Deinen Dank l Pardon ?? Threads will be massive. and one line would definitely be better than three, IMHO: Danke zu andybarton f What have I got to do with this Rolo? Rolo Posted July 15, 2010 Share #51 Posted July 15, 2010 You're a top bloke, Ivan. Thanks, for everything.
aesop Posted July 15, 2010 Share #52 Posted July 15, 2010 What have I got to do with this Rolo? ...it would appear you are rather polite, Azzo. And you choose to respond to comments individually. For the record, I have no problem with this.
azzo Posted July 15, 2010 Share #53 Posted July 15, 2010 Rolo - Thank you. aesop - Thank you also. Better? . . .
azzo Posted July 15, 2010 Share #54 Posted July 15, 2010 Wait a minute .... Below Post 51 - M'Ate saying Thanks. Is she/he thanking Rolo? Below Post 52 - Is M'Ate thanking aesop? Below Post 53 - There's both aesop and M'Ate saying thanks. Are they all thanking one another repeatedly? Reminds of some comedy. :D . . . . . . Bo_Lorentzen Posted July 15, 2010 Share #55 Posted July 15, 2010 Azzo, Thank you for noticing. - though since everybody are too polite to make real meaningful comments on sad pictures, maybe a "why did you bother post this" option, might be useful. I do like the thank you button, just think its ironic that we just made a shortcut for meaningful conversation in a art forum. But maybe finally this can speed up the process of art. (and understanding art) .
cocker Posted July 15, 2010 Share #56 Posted July 15, 2010 Don't use it then. No one's forcing you to. It seems to me that people just like to moan about anything. They would moan about a button that said "Click here and collect €100", because the exchange rate isn't great at the moment... I'm expressing my view Andy. If I disagree with something I have a tendency to say so. If I agree with something I tend to say so. If I'm not bothered I tend not to say anything. That's not "moaning". But it has been a tendency of intolerant people from time to time to brand the views of those people that don't fit with their own as "moaners". daveleo Posted July 15, 2010 Share #57 Posted July 15, 2010 updating my 2cents to 3cents after using it for a day, clicking the button is kind of impersonal . . . i gave it a shot, but will revert back to previous habits of typing. as far as statistics go . . . the statistics will be meaningless unless the button is universally accepted and used. . . . so i don't quite get the point of collecting inconclusive data . . . dee dee dum. I was seconding his appreciation of your efforts and indeed great influence on LUF. On balance it has been positive over a long period. So, I take this opportunity to thank you personally, Ivan. Guest mc_k Posted July 15, 2010 Share #59 Posted July 15, 2010 ...That would promote further the helping instinct in people, and hopefully extinguish their desire to keep bumping their threads (and therefore inflating their numbers) with silly personalized thank you messages. Ece I usually thank someone who has written a couple of paragraphs in response to a question I asked. I think your issue is with the post counting. I think the post counter should be removed, also. What is the point?
