lagrassa Posted July 12, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know the leather quality and finsih are most likey not up to Luigi's case standards, but neither is the price. Just wondering if anyyone has any comments, experience, and/or impressions? Is the interior 'velvet' soft and easy on the camera? Thanks.
Advertisement Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Hi lagrassa, Take a look here Anyone Using a Zhou Half Case for Their M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mzcloud Posted July 12, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2010 I have one and used it for a short while. Found the finish is good but not excellent. Don't use it anymore because it doesn't have a cut out for my thumbs up grip which I prefer more. I would say for the price and quality of Zhou, it is very worth the purchase. lagrassa Posted July 12, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted July 12, 2010 I have one and used it for a short while. Found the finish is good but not excellent. Don't use it anymore because it doesn't have a cut out for my thumbs up grip which I prefer more. I would say for the price and quality of Zhou, it is very worth the purchase. I see that there is now a version of the case that has the cutout for the thumbs up. Another decision to have or not have.
don_panko Posted July 13, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 13, 2010 I have this half case and it fits very well. Given that it is intended to take hard knocks to protect the camera the finish is more than acceptable. I only use it when travelling as a piece of grip tape placed where my thumb rests has been a better way to get a grip on the camera, for me.
vafa Posted July 13, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 13, 2010 I have this and I'm very happy with it. Fit and finish is very good. I like it and inside is soft and protects well. The price is good also.
Clook Posted July 13, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 13, 2010 I'm also very pleased with the Zhou half case. I haven't used or even seen the Luigi case so cannot give a comparison. If I use it on my chrome body for any length of time it tends to leave a dark 'tidemark' across the top-plate. This is easily removed however with a quick wipe. Cream1008 Posted July 13, 2010 Share #7 Posted July 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I used one before and fits M8 without any trouble. But after two months I decided to buy a Luigi case as more positive feedback. I decided to sell Zhou as I think as you pay over $4000 for M8 (with Germany made) it deserve a better quality case. I think if someone afford to pay $4000 to 6000 for M8 and lens they won't mind to pay $300 for a Luigi case. At least I don't mind. The Luigi case using best quality leather inside and outside I would say it suits M8 the most.
Delfi_r Posted July 13, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 13, 2010 I have one in my second hand M8 and, I have ordered one more for my second hand M8.2. As they ship when I pay them, I like them. It's not the price the only thing that matters. My plan is to have at least one case for each supplier. So soon I'll order one at Leicatime for my upcoming M9. My plan includes a dress for my M4-P from JapanExposures. Brown is better for chrome cameras.

This was also my thinking, and I have to say that I can't imagine my M8 now without my Luigi case, it seems such an essential part of its character. The quality is superb and really it's outrageously attractive.
daleeman Posted July 15, 2010 Share #10 Posted July 15, 2010 I use on on my 8.2 and it works very well. I have it on almost all the time. I can mount my 135 f2.8 with eyes directly on the camera with the case on. I can not moun it with the grip Leica sells and I like the feel of that too. I do not have a thumbs up, but I do rest my thumb's inner nuckle on the two snaps on the back right side of the case. This is comfotable and adds a little less of a death grip I keep on the camera for fear of dropping it. (Nothing to do with the case, I have dropped my Leicaflex SL and my R4 before) Well worth the money, and I have never felt like I was a Lower Class Leica Owner for having one on there to protect the camera. Be glad to do the happy dance like I have with UV filters when one gets damaged instead of the equipment if the Zhou case takes a real life saving slash and spares the camera. Take the difference in $$$ and buy a fun lens to expand your photographic abilities. Lee
djsteb Posted July 15, 2010 Share #11 Posted July 15, 2010 I have been using a Mr Zhou half-case on my 8.2 since I bought it six months ago. It is an excellent product and the service and delivery is first class. I also have the Zhou one knot shoulder strap another great product David
Islandmike Posted July 15, 2010 Share #12 Posted July 15, 2010 I'm also very pleased with the Zhou half case. I haven't used or even seen the Luigi case so cannot give a comparison. If I use it on my chrome body for any length of time it tends to leave a dark 'tidemark' across the top-plate. This is easily removed however with a quick wipe. I use Mr Zhou's half case all the time, as it gives good protection and excellent added grip over the camera without any case. I've also noticed a similar bit of a tide mark on my black M8 body and have just cleaned it almost all off with some spectacle cleaner. Looks as if the leather edge polishes the metal a little but - probably when holding the camera against my face - not a problem though. Mr Zhou was perfect to deal with, sending the case well packed very promptly. Hope that's helpful.
