msbel Posted July 12, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted July 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) My beloved X1 momentarily crapped out on me over the weekend. Was on a walk shooting, and lifted the camera to get a candid shot. Lens came out, and then...bam...the whole thing dead as a doorknob. Lens would not retract, display and menu dead. Turned it on off and all on settings, nothing. Â Only when I removed the battery and put it back in did it start again, and has not happened since. It was a full bar battery and read as such once the thing came back to life. Â Any idea on why that may have happened? Close to giving it the benefit of the doubt seeing most gadgets and computers will crap out once and a while, and need to be "rebooted"... If it happens again, though.......I will want a new one. Â As usual, these temperamental beasts misbehave, and I am still hopelessly attached

Guest Chris M Posted July 12, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted July 12, 2010 Possibly a loose battery latch and or door?? Â Cm
Guest badbob Posted July 12, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted July 12, 2010 Me too. Same as most computers - simply locked up. Nothing to worry about.
eelekim Posted July 13, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted July 13, 2010 Yes. But my X1 has never been like that. You'd better contact Leica. I've used a Sigma DP2s and it has hanged up quite often. Nearly intolerable.
cpclee Posted July 13, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted July 13, 2010 I'd just email Leica USA to see what they say. If it's a software glitch it will be addressed in a future update; if it's more serious (which I doubt) they'll take good care of it. It's not unusual for electronics to occasionally behave this way with early firmware versions.

My (awesome) dealer will make it right if happens again and/or I want to exchange at any time.
chuck3819 Posted July 13, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted July 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been a photographer for 21 years and have unfortunately had this problem with film and digital cameras. Usually it is nothing more than a build up of static electricity that is easily remedied by removing the battery, waiting a few seconds, and then putting it back in. Nine times out of ten it will do the trick. I know a lot of you probably know this already, but I'm sure there are some people that do not.
F1Addict Posted July 14, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted July 14, 2010 Same thing happened to me once about a month ago. Took the battery out and back in again and everything was fine. Very odd.

Douglasco Posted July 17, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted July 17, 2010 Same with me as well this week while on holiday. took the battery out and put it straight back in and all is fine. I had the handgrip attached so it was not down to a loose battery door, must be just a computer thing.
