unikad Posted July 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I´m looking for some super tele prime lens (at least 280/2.8 for my Leica R, but I can´t afford to pay a couple of thousands euros for superb Leica lenses, so I was just wondering if some other brands could be attached to Leica R cameras? Do they sell some adapters so that I can attach e.g. Canon or Nikon lenses on my Leica R? Thank you
Advertisement Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Hi unikad, Take a look here Lens adapters for Leica R. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
giordano Posted July 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 9, 2010 The Leica R has one of the longest registers (distance from lens mount flange to film) of all 35mm cameras - 47mm compared with 46.5mm for Nikon and 44mm for Canon. This means that lenses of other makes cannot be adapted without major surgery. The exception is some lenses originally designed for interchangeable mounts, principally T-mount and the Tamron Adaptall and Adaptall-2 lenses. But this is going back a long way and most of the lenses were built for price more than quality. I've never seen one, but it seems that Tamron did do a 300mm/2.8 in Adaptall-2 mount. wildlightphoto Posted July 9, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2010 ...it seems that Tamron did do a 300mm/2.8 in Adaptall-2 mount. The Tamron Adaptall SP 300mm F/2.8 LD (IF) was quite good.
Simon Baker Posted July 10, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2010 The Tamron Adaptall SP 300mm F/2.8 LD (IF) was quite good. I agree with Doug, The Tamron 300mm F2.8 LD IF is indeed a good lens and would be a wise choice if you cannot afford the Leica options. It is very well made and can often be found for very fair prices, here in the UK a decent example normally is priced around £699 and a "mint" example about £899 - £999 . unikad Posted July 11, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks for you advices. I was looking for that Tamron with Leica-R adapter and of course it´s not available in the Czech republic at all. Hard to find even at foreing web sites:( I´m the happy owner of some elmarits-R, I can reach 360 mm with my 180/2.8 + 2x extender. But for some birds it´s not enough:(
bocaburger Posted July 11, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 11, 2010 KEH.com is a great, reputable company in the US and they sell/ship internationally they have a number of the Tamron 300/2.8 SP lenses here: Tamron Adaptall Lenses Fixed Focal Length Lenses - KEH.com some of them have the matched 1.4x teleconverter included, which is a nice option. I wouldn't be at all afraid of their "BGN" (bargain) grade either, as they tend to grade very conservatively. Their BGN is what typical eBay auctions call MINT and an adapter here: Tamron Adaptall Lenses Miscellaneous Accessories - KEH.com make sure you get the one marked Leica R adapter, not the one for SL mirror lenses. I had that lens (Tamron 300/2.8 SP) at the same time as the older (non-modular) 280/2.8 Leica APO and, optically-speaking, the Tamron was a surprisingly close contender. It's an internal focus lens too, which makes focusing quick and easy. Of course the Leica is built like a tank, but the Tamron is metal and well-made also. The Tamron's color balance is a touch warmer than the Leica, not necessarily a bad thing.
giordano Posted July 11, 2010 Share #7 Posted July 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) KEH.com is a great, reputable company in the US and they sell/ship internationally The last time I tried to deal with them, a few months back, they wanted far more information about me than is needed for an international credit card transaction, in fact enough to make me suspect that they are having problems with their financial providers and certainly enough to support an identity fraud. People say the firm has a good reputation, but that doesn't guarantee that every one of their employees is immune from temptation, and by sending the the information I would be putting myself outside the range of the EU's data protection laws. So they didn't get my business and I'd advise anyone outside the US to avoid them until they change their policy.
unikad Posted July 13, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted July 13, 2010 Ehmmm, it looks that I´ll have to wait until I find that Tamron in some second-hand or I´ll have to work hard for a couple of years to make money for original Leica-R 280/2.8:)))...pffff...
