Q for Lightroom users > delete the JPGs?

A lot of us a are hoping the option to shoot DNG only will be part of a firmware update for the X1 at some point, including me.

Until then, you get both. I have no use whatsoever for the JPGs so I wonder if you can just go the images folder outside Lightroom and simply delete all the JPGs? Or will L'Room have a problem with that?

Anybody tried this?

OK I looked around on the Adobe Lightroom forum and deleted all the JPGs. With LR still running BTW.

No problem at all. The only thing you have to do is to sync the folder in LR after deleting the JPGs. If not LR keeps thinking there should be a JPG file along with the DNG. Not a real issue but you'll get error messages when deleting files from disk and/or catalogs. After you sync the folder the '+JPG' extensions are gone too.

This saves a lot of files and disk space your computer has to wade through. Neat.

I like to shoot my M9 with RAW + B/W JPEGs as I find that best for assessing picture elements on the rear screen. Once in LR I then delete the JPEGs and just work with the RAW files.

Always interested to see a better way, but for now my approach is to sort the imported pictures by file extension, which makes it easy to do a group selection of JPEGs, and then I intstruct LR to delete them. Done! I did try to specifiy no import of the JPEGs but in Vers 2 of LR (that I am still using) that is a clumsy exercise although it can be done.

Hope this helps the OP.

@ Moderator(s):

Just for my understanding, why is this thread moved from the X1 section? The subject is specific for the X1 and not PP'cing in general. ??...

The subject is about Lightroom, not the X1 specifically. You happen to have come across this question because you use the X1, but it is of interest to those who don't have an X1 too.
