sanyasi Posted July 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I purchased Martin Evening's The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book yesterday. It is available in paperback and as a Kindle download. I obviously haven't read all 672 pages yet. I started with the sharpening and noise reduction sliders, because they strike me as important and non-intuitive. It will take another read or two, but those sections were excellent in explaining each slider, what it does, and the pros and cons of different settings. It gives base sharpening settings for landscapes and portraits (actually presets) and explains ways to view how the changes are impacting the images. Very enlightening. I glanced through other sections and this looks like a winner for those who want to get deeper into LR and its capabilities. Jack Siegel
Advertisement Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Hi sanyasi, Take a look here Martin Evening Lightroom 3 Guide. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted July 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 6, 2010 I suspect there are minor tweaks and updates to his already thorough book on LR2 (600 pages). Kelby should be soon to follow (jokes and all). Jeff
sanyasi Posted July 6, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted July 6, 2010 While I recognize there will be lots of overlap, it is nice to have the latest thinking. As for Kelby, I have two of his books. I like some humor, but he for me, he quickly wears thin.
stunsworth Posted July 6, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2010 I like some humor, but he for me, he quickly wears thin. Can't stand the bloke `the sooner he drops the 'humour' the better.
Jeff S Posted July 6, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2010 I also can't stomach Kelby's attempt at humor. But, the books are useful, especially for basic overview. I usually find an answer to an issue somewhere between Kelby and Evening. I'd like to see one of them publish just an addendum for changes from LR2 to LR3, but not much hope for this given the profit motive. Jeff
