Vlad Posted July 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't know which other forum to post this in, so pardon if this isn't the place. I am realizing that I have enough precious Leica gear that it should warrant a safe storage method. I was thinking to get a safe for it, something that will resist fire/heat and any other harm. Anyone have a suggestion? Currently I am using a cheap Ikea rack, but I am starting to think that I am a lunatic for storing $xx,xxx worth of gear in a $70 cabinet. Mantice Posted July 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2010 wow haven't been here for long time. I will suggest a Taiwan/China made automatic humidity control chamber (looks like a glass window mini frig) that can also function as dust-resist chamber (since its almost sealed) This is purely your personal choice to store it. If I were you I'll sell out few and keep those that I'll be using (or those amazingly good ones). Just my 2 cent
tobey bilek Posted July 11, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2010 Dry box if have a hunidity problem to solve. Safe if want to protect from fire. Bank vault. For theft, the most practical answer is insurance. Small safes are insane to protect from theft. Thieves just pick them up and open them somewhere else. That leaves large safes which are large, requires a proper supporting floor. In most homes, that is a basement that is perhaps a flood or water problem if only occasionally. Now you can build a false wall, use a locking file cabinet, store in a box clearly labeled Christmas decorations mixed in with the real decorations. I use a combination of all the above depending on how often I need to acess the item.
