italy74 Posted July 1, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I found an even better opportunity in Milan and I just wrote to fix it. I have no lenses yet but I'll get them as soon as possible. Price aside, here's the camera in question Foto Ottica Cavour Hope you like it
Advertisement Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Hi italy74, Take a look here R8 update..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Doc Henry Posted July 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2010 Dino, This seems a good price Is it guaranteed ? Can you make a film roll before ? Try to borrow a 50mm per example Henry
italy74 Posted July 1, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted July 1, 2010 Ciao Doc it's one of the most trusted sellers I know in Milan. I know if they say "A" they have checked it thouroughsly and even if there was no guarantee they would service it in case it's defective, however my use will be for sure lighter than average. As soon as I can - i.e. probably within the end of this month or the beginning of August, I'll get also the 50 or the 90 let's see. What I really wanted was to fix it before it went away, since that shop and another one in Milan have a very long list of used cameras updated daily and I know what is there today might be not tomorrow. For your info, here are the links to the two most famous shops in Milan, they "live" only with used cameras. Newoldcamera http://www.newoldcamera.com/Prodotti.aspx?Tipo=OB >>> lenses >> usually this shop is a tad cheaper http://www.newoldcamera.com/Prodotti.aspx?Tipo=CO >>> bodies >> select the brand and then scroll down Foto Ottica Cavour http://www.fotootticacavour.it/prodotti.asp?area=prd&sez=old >>> select the brand and then "Fotocamere" (cameras) AND/OR "Obiettivi" (lenses) and then "Esegui ricerca" at the bottom It happens they also sell new things but they aren't exactly cheap there. Doc Henry Posted July 1, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2010 Dino, In principle, the R8 is guaranteed for 5 years, as I said on another thread The summilux 50mm *(500 Euros) seems good The camera seem to be in good condition I see that there are Leicaflex SL : very good cameras in my opinion. Try to take a film with this camera to see ! But I think if you buy from an Leica dealer , there is already a guarantee to be followed * Foto Ottica Cavour Henry
italy74 Posted July 2, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted July 2, 2010 Oh, yes, Henry Foto Ottica Cavour IS a Leica Dealer and Newoldcamera as well, however although "as new" I doubt the camera has still its original warranty, usually they offer items with a period varying from 6 months to two years - which would be enough for me. By chance, it would be also the one I found the R8 here in Parma, but the prices are waaaay higher, up to 4x what you saw there... Go figure where I'll get the R8? As for the 50, I think to go for the F/2, I think I spotted one in good condition for a good price in Turin and just a bit more for a 90 F/2. One step at a time but as you see I really had to get it before someone else would have blowed it to me. Just for the files, here is the place I mentioned above in Turin, unfortunately they don't have images of lenses already online but they provide on request. It's a twofold site, kept by two brothers each one with a common items pool and some different and prices as well, one is better for some, the other for else. http://www.reflex-top-linea.it http://www.mcdigital.it
italy74 Posted July 2, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted July 2, 2010 17.47 update - well it was due since this morning but unfortunately I had no time. unfortunately the camera had just been sold a few minutes before I placed my order. Due to the fact there was no "operator" - it was late - I discovered it only this morning...
italy74 Posted July 3, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted July 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Umpteenth update: Guess what ? Not all bad luck comes to hurt, they say. Today I physically broke my 50 F/1.4 AF D this means that I have first to solve it and then to think of all the rest. An old little crack on the aperture ring decided to explode 5 yrs after it was done by bumping ungracefully on the asphalt at night. Even if the lens could be (theoretically) electronically set by the camera, de facto I can't do that since the dial has to be set to F/16 and stay there, but actually it's completely gone and moves freely. In the end with the money saved from the R8 I can get another brand new lens, even a ZF 50 if I want. However, since I heard that within a few months should come out a new (Nikon) 50 F/1.2 lens or so, I might now patch with a 50 F/1.8 whose performance would be great, especially considered the price and then delay a more expensive purchase to Christmas time or whenever such lens comes out. I have to think of it and make my wife part of the agreement. I've already told her the lens is now broken thus she should be involved as well. I'll let you know... For sure with the 50 Summicron I saw such breach wouldn't have occurred, since the MUCH sturdier build. Is it a sign I have to sell all my Nikon gear and switch to Leica R ? italy74 Posted July 3, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted July 3, 2010 WHEW ! to add (unwanted) thrill to the evening - thanking God everything went fine after a few minutes of (mild - given the topic) panic - was the fact that when I showed to my wife the broken lens, which was mounted on the camera, the F6, I had a bad surprise. Guess what? That nasty plastic collar had shifted in the wrong sense and I couldn't remove the lens from the camera itself ! With a tiny screwdriver I worked on it until - not for my merit, I had not yet understood what was wrong - the lock passed over the block on the camera body and I was finally able to remove the lens. Nay, later I even "repaired" the lens by myself - at least fixed it temporarily since I was able to couple the broken part with the lens alignment, yet it has still to be glued or fixed steadily and the lens, even if works fine with electronic couplings (i.e. I can drive it from the camera) is now NOT reliable at all. Unfortunately I have no appropriate glue at home right now. If the little lock now ON moves of just a mm or less, the lens command dial will shift again in an unpredictable direction and I might have not screwdrivers with me that time. Go figure how afraid I was to damage the F6 when I saw that I couldn't remove the lens !
