naretev Posted June 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anyone explain to me why Leica limits your Color Space to sRGB when shooting in DNG (RAW) mode on the M9? I called Leica tech today and they couldn't explain why but you can only use the Adobe RGB when you shoot JPEGS. This makes no sense to me since sRGB is a more limited color gamut than Adobe. hoppyman Posted July 1, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2010 What you are seeing in the menu is the option to set the colour space for JPEG files. It shows as a (greyed out unavailable option) sRGB when you are shooting raw, EVEN WHEN you set Adobe RGB as the colour space for JPEG. It is a little untidy in the menu but as you have seen it does not have any actual effect on your raw files, which is the most important thing. asfeir Posted July 1, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 1, 2010 That's right, RAW does not have color space. It could be that, by default, the M9 uses sRGB to build the picture preview in the camera. This is quite appropriate since sRGB is best for such use. The RAW (or .DNG) file is not affected at all by this. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I doubt that you would determine anything about colour space from that preview though. Just a menu artefact of no consequence. Not selectable for DNG as mentioned. you will see the menu options for sharpening, color saturation and contrast greyed out as well. Try this, choose JPEG and set to Adobe RGB. Change to DNG capture and the greyed out option shows sRGB anyway. Change back to JPEG and you will see that Adobe RGB is still set. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
