kzooleica Posted June 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pardon the repeating of an old discussion, but I bought an EP 1 in January and am only now coming to understand that I might be able to use my Leica lenses on it. I understand that the wider angle lens - 21 mm, e.g. -- will be a bit blurry in the corners. Can anyone with experience in the combination of Leica lenses and EP 1 tell me what I need to do to make my Leica 35 mm and a 90 mm fit onto an EP 1? One final question (and I know this one is really, really basic) what does "OM" refer to with regard to Olympus lenses? For what it's worth, I'm pretty happy with my EP 1, though I wish the EP 2 had been out in January. I seriously considered the X1, but just couldn't swing the price with a fixed focal length. I'll be very happy when Leica comes out with a zoom on that camera. Presuming that they will... Thank you, Sarah

Rusted Chrome Posted June 29, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2010 You only need a Leica M to Micro Four-thirds adapter to use Leica M lenses on the EP-1. You can even add a screwmount to M adapter to that to use older lenses as well. I do both and it works perfectly. The wide-angle lenses will not be blurry at the corners, or even very wide angle, because the Pen cameras are 2x crop sensors, so you are only getting the center of the image. A 24mm lens will have a 48mm field of view. This even goes back to the original Pen cameras which were half-frame on 35mm film. "OM" is the Olympus lens system used by their SLR cameras up until they went auto-focus and digital. They are very well built and have excellent optics. You can use them on your EP-1 with an OM adapter. In fact, you can use almost any lens ever made on an EP-1 with the correct adapter. I have various adapters and use them with mine. Just remember that you will have to manually focus and set the aperture when you use these.
