wparsonsgisnet Posted June 24, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am in the process of converting to a MacBookPro from a windoze machine -- a process that I antiipated doing in a gradual fashion but which is precipitate. Of course, it is the licensing fight that is still ongoing. "No, I can't uninstall the software, it's on a computer that died." I am getting close. Unfortunately, Focus Magic is not ready for the Mac i7 (and I thot I was so smart, getting the latest chip and Snow Leopard -- what could make more sense?) From the Focus Magic guys: Unfortunately, Intel-Macs are not supported at this time. We are planning an Intel-Mac version, but our developers and resources are currently focused on another large project which has caused a delay in its development. Unfortunately, we cannot give a release date at this stage. Please let us know if you want to be added to our waiting list. Sorry for any inconvenience. I did ask to be put on the waiting list. Anyone think they're going to need this software in "unobtainium?" Send them an email. Making great progress so far: C1 V5 Pro -- done PS CS 5 upgrade -- done Dream Weaver -- New license (old software can bite you in the dorsal side) Final Cut Pro (Suite) -- done In progress -- one-to-one training. This is Fantastic! If you buy a new Apple computer, you can get a year of *unlimited* one-on-one training, for $99. AND, you can renew this training for 2 more years at the same $99. Brilliant! I did mention to my #1 son that these things (MacBookPro) are expensive. He responded, "Yes, but you got a piece of furniture." It is a handsome devil. Still waiting for Focus Magic .... Advertisement Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hi wparsonsgisnet, Take a look here Focus Magic is not ready for Mac i7 -- Alas. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted June 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2010 If they don't support intel macs by now I wouldn't hold my breath. Their sales must be virtually zero.
ptarmigan Posted June 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 25, 2010 Bill You've a Leica. With all that sharp glass surely you can just shoot stuff that's in focus already. Problem solved.
wparsonsgisnet Posted June 25, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted June 25, 2010 Bill You've a Leica. With all that sharp glass surely you can just shoot stuff that's in focus already. Problem solved. Ian, That's certainly my expectation -- just not always my realization. Of course, even tho I ASK the dancers to wait in the air while I take the pic, they seem to move anyway! Maybe I need the tripod under the subject. Actually, even prints that are "in focus" seem to benefit from this software. I'm giong to see if I can put my old copy on my PowerBook G4. Someone who posted about this software before I bot it said that he uses it on just about every image he delivers.
archi4 Posted June 26, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 26, 2010 Bill, I agree with you entirely on the results obtainable with Focus Magic, especially when I had to remove some motion blur. The only alternative is in PSCS4 and 5 under the advanced window of the Smart Sharpen Filter which does allow you to choose the angle of motion. archi4 Posted June 26, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 26, 2010 Bill, I forgot to mention, that if you have CS4, then Focus Magic will run if you start up Photoshop in Rosetta. I still have CS4 on one of my computers, and it works! Not very convenient, but if you need Focus Magic for some images it's worth the trouble. Thanks to your post, I just tried it again and it certainly is amazing maurice
Guido Posted July 2, 2010 Share #7 Posted July 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bill, the post from the Focus Magic guys about an Intel Mac version being in the works is already several years old!! I know, because I once had high hopes too after switching from a PowerPC to an Intel Mac. So, I'd estimate the probability of never seeing a new version again from these people at 99.85% or beyond... pico Posted July 2, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 2, 2010 Focus Magic - How to run Photoshop CS3 / Elements on an Intel-Mac Using Rosetta Doesn't the above work? The Focus Magic people are unlikely to make new software for an obsolete operating system. Look forward, not backwards. Yes, I hate reality, too (but no so bad as to shoot digital). jamesk8752 Posted July 2, 2010 Share #9 Posted July 2, 2010 Focus Magic - How to run Photoshop CS3 / Elements on an Intel-Mac Using Rosetta Doesn't that work? Yes, it works if you are using PSE 6; PSE 8 does not run in Rosetta so you can't run Focus Magic in it. I have both PSE 6 and 8 installed on my Intel Macs so I can still run Focus Magic and several other filters in PSE 6/Rosetta. Regards, Jim
