colin_d Posted June 24, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted June 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have read on here and elsewhere not to buy the older 50mm summilux, before 1,844,000. What would be the noticeable difference in my images compared to the newer morre recent pre Asph version. I shoot film on an M5. Â I know the price is a lot steeper for a newer model, but wondering if it is worth it to pay double, would I notice that much difference?
Advertisement Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hi colin_d, Take a look here 50 Summilux pre Asph, old or newer version dilemma. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wizard Posted June 25, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted June 25, 2010 For some reason, your post ended up in the German language section of this forum. Maybe on of the mods can move it into the English language section. Â In response, Summilux lenses before the no. you quoted will be noticeably softer wide open and will show significantly less contrast wide open. Stopped down, the differences between the two versions will be small. So it depends on how you use your lens. If it is mostly or often wide open, do get the newer version. Btw, the newer version was built for almost (or even over) 40 years for a reason, while the earlier version (first version) was only made for about two years.
