M8 Battery Capacity

Bill,

You may already know this, but to get the battery to full capacity after the first charge you have to empty it of all charge, and then charge it fully. Do this 3 or 4 times with a new battery before it will work to full capacity. Then do it again once or twice/month.

Best,

Mitchell - I read that too, in the manual, but how do you discharge it. If you discharge it by using the camera and don't have a backup battery you can be stranded.

Mitchell, I always understood that to be the case with NiCad batts. Is it also true for Li Ion batts?

I would have thought by now manufacturers would provide chargers with a built in "cycling" option. I do have a 3rd party charger that does that, but I need to connect it using aligator clips! Bit of a hassle.

Cheers,

Erl

Hugh and Erl,

That's one of the reasons everybodies trying to get their hands on a spare battery.

A bit of a hassle, yes, but my battery performance sure improved after a few complete cycles.

Best,

Mitchell

I've tried deep cycling the battery, but I'll give it a couple more tries to see if that helps.

Does anybody know of anyplace with batteries? I haven't been able to find any in the US. I tried ordering a couple times and got an email back that the batteries were backordered.

I have 4 batteries and really the best practice is run them down to nothing for the first three or four times . Than you can charge at will than every month or so recondition them and repeat or just run them all the way down all the time. I do this with the DMR also. But you do need extra batteries to do this. Which are hard to find but there are many shops in the US that do carry them so you really have to look around. I went to 3 different places and had 6 at one time and just turned them over to some friends that needed them.
