whsouthworth Posted December 31, 2006 Share #1 Â Posted December 31, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The battery on my M8 never shows fully charged and also the battery time seems shorter than I'd expect (shorter than my RD-1). Has anyone else seen this as a problem, or did I get a flaky battery?
Advertisement Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Hi whsouthworth, Take a look here M8 Battery Capacity. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Stevez4 Posted December 31, 2006 Share #2 Â Posted December 31, 2006 I get about 150 DNG/JPG shots per battery charge. Or in other words one 2 GIG SD card worth. You really need an extra on assignment.
woodyspedden Posted December 31, 2006 Share #3 Â Posted December 31, 2006 I have been getting over 200 shots with one battery but I sure wouldn't go out on assignment without an extra. Â Woody Spedden
khanosu Posted December 31, 2006 Share #4 Â Posted December 31, 2006 I have been consistently getting 400 to 500 DNGs per charge; however I do not chimp and use the LCD screen just to change ISO settings or for formatting cards. Â Furrukh
mitchell Posted January 1, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 1, 2007 Bill, Â You may already know this, but to get the battery to full capacity after the first charge you have to empty it of all charge, and then charge it fully. Do this 3 or 4 times with a new battery before it will work to full capacity. Then do it again once or twice/month. Â Best, Â Mitchell

If you discharge it by using the camera and don't have a backup battery you can be stranded.  Hugh
erl Posted January 1, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mitchell, I always understood that to be the case with NiCad batts. Is it also true for Li Ion batts? Â I would have thought by now manufacturers would provide chargers with a built in "cycling" option. I do have a 3rd party charger that does that, but I need to connect it using aligator clips! Bit of a hassle. Â Cheers, Erl
mitchell Posted January 1, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 1, 2007 Hugh and Erl, Â That's one of the reasons everybodies trying to get their hands on a spare battery. Â A bit of a hassle, yes, but my battery performance sure improved after a few complete cycles. Â Best, Â Mitchell
whsouthworth Posted January 1, 2007 Author Share #9 Â Posted January 1, 2007 I've tried deep cycling the battery, but I'll give it a couple more tries to see if that helps. Â Does anybody know of anyplace with batteries? I haven't been able to find any in the US. I tried ordering a couple times and got an email back that the batteries were backordered. Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 1, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted January 1, 2007 I have 4 batteries and really the best practice is run them down to nothing for the first three or four times . Than you can charge at will than every month or so recondition them and repeat or just run them all the way down all the time. I do this with the DMR also. But you do need extra batteries to do this. Which are hard to find but there are many shops in the US that do carry them so you really have to look around. I went to 3 different places and had 6 at one time and just turned them over to some friends that needed them.
