Advertisement Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hi eelekim, Take a look here Comparisons. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
h00ligan Posted June 24, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted June 24, 2010 After a brief look, it doesn't seem too interesting, insightful, or helpful. Just my thoughts..pretty basic and generic, certainly nothing the dpreview comparisons etc don't cover in far more depth.
RichardM8 Posted June 24, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted June 24, 2010 certainly nothing the dpreview comparisons etc don't cover in far more depth. Â With one - in my view - important remark. Reviews like from DPreview and others like it are well done and useful but also the usual tech, speeds & feeds reviews. Noise curves, MFT graphs etc. They tend to have less focus on the more photographic aspects of a camera. Drawing of the lens, how the images 'look' (not how they measure), operation in the field, seeing the subject and framing, etc. Â Put bluntly, if we would all follow these tests alone we'd all walk around with either a 7D/D300s or a 5D/D700 and Leica would be out of business altogether. Â For a different perspective and unique way of testing camera's and gear I highly recommend the (subscriber) site from Sean Reid. His review and view on the X1 is unique from everything I've read so far (and spot on IMO). Â http://www.reidreviews.com/
h00ligan Posted June 24, 2010 Share #4  Posted June 24, 2010 I must have missed something, I'll have to revisit the link (I was pretty tired last night) because all I saw was a very limited amount of info. I agree with you on the mft charts type stuff, doesn't tell the full story. I was only mentioning that because the link seemed to provide a more basic version of that..I must have missed something more in depth  Edit - Richard are we looking at the same link? I just went back there and it seems to me to be nearly the same thing as dpreview test comparisons and the ir comparometer. It seems the exact opposite of whist you suggested was better (more real world) and more directly in line with geek testing. Am I going crazy? Guest badbob Posted June 24, 2010 Share #5  Posted June 24, 2010 Have you compared X1 with other cameras in Digital Versus? Beware of some wrong info like the responsiveness chart and specifications of X1 though...mike  I did some comparisons of the X1 to the default (Olympus) camera, and also to the Panasonic TZ10 (since they didn't have the VL20). The text was better on the X1, but you can barely tell the difference due to the small size. However, the motorcycle tire, fender, and light were *way* better with the X1, which is surprising, since I wouldn't expect such a large difference in a very small image. It makes me wonder if the testers know how to get the best possible image from those little pocket cameras, particularly the TZ10 since it's a Leica-designed lens. Do you mean you have read the entire X1 review from Sean Read? (that would mean you have a subscription for his site) Â Richard.
h00ligan Posted June 25, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted June 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) No Richard.. I mean I have read this link mentioned in the original post and it seems the same or inferior to other techie reviews. Sean Reid was something you mentioned based on my comments on this link. I'm not sure I understand where one begets the other. My comments were directed at the fact the original link by the original poster seemed like a less informative version of other tech reviews, nothing more. I feel like I'm missing something here. How do my comments about the originally posted link have anything to do with Reid reviews, which are a different category? Â I'm sure Reid reviews are great, but speaking of the original link posted, I see little value vs the ir comparometer or dpreview. Â What am I missing? I completely agree there is more to cameras than mft charts. I was just discussing the posted link and am not sure why Reid reviews came into it honestly. The link posted is a tech review..and a weak one at that imho.
