jlancasterd Posted December 31, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 31, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone have any advice on storing film in a freezer rather than a refrigerator? I need to store a quantity of Fuji Super G Plus 1600, Ilford XP2 Super 400 and Kodak Portra 160NC in unopened containers. What precautions do I need to take - especially when it comes to warming the film up for use?

vic vic Posted December 31, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 31, 2006 put it bellow 10 degrees celcius.. keep it in their original boxes and packs. when u need to use... a day before put it in normal room temperature... this is it. no problems to keep some stuff even two days before use... so u can always can have some stock ready to use always. Photoskeptic Posted January 2, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 2, 2007 If you need your film right away, straight from the freezer will give problems. I don't buy that much bulk film so I keep it in the fridge. Film that is about to expire I do keep in the freezer and try to be conscientious about taking it out early. masjah Posted January 3, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 3, 2007 John My (purely empirical) experience is that keeping in the freezer, as distinct from the fridge, is fine provided you are able to plan a little ahead. My routine (for what it's worth) is to store in the freezer, but to "move up" to the fridge for 24 hours, and then a further couple of hours at room temperature. So I think of it as the Deposit A/c, the Current A/c and cash in hand!

I've just treated myself to a 'poor man's M7' (a grey paint Voigtlander R3A) so that I can make use of my collection of M lenses whilst saving up for an M8 and have ordered some bulk film from 7dayshop.com to go with it.
