ian moore Posted June 20, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use Peak Imaging (U.K.) Sheffield for the developing of my slides and negatves. I project my slides and scan the good negatives I want to keep. I pay the extra amount for the professional service. No problem with the negatives but a recent batch of slides came back with substantial dust (small black spots) all over the slides. No pattern, just random. I could not project them, they were too visible. I had to do a lot of work in photoshop to remove them (with the usual impact on picture sharpness). Anyone have similar experience? Any recommended alternatives to Peak Imaging? Thanks, Ian

holmes Posted June 22, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2010 Hi, first I'm not in the UK. But dust on finished film strips or slides is generally caused by the photo finisher. When I was running a photo darkroom (wet) for Santa Fe(NM) Police Department we had a drying cabinet. We would pull the film out of wet processing and attach small weights to the leaders. Pop into the drying cabinet and next morning, dry, flat and straight. Easy to cut into 4 or 5 frames per, and put them into archival storage pages. Again I don't know what their procedures are, but I would ask to see.

Thanks, Ian I've just received 19 slide films back from them without any problems and I've used them before. But I will be trying to develop my own films as I've successfully used the Tetenal 3-bath kit to process some 5" x 4" slides in a Jobo processor. As I've got the equipment to do it, the costs of sending it to Peak seems a tad wasteful. Nick
