arthury Posted June 19, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) REF: match Technical Services - Thumbs Up CSEP-1 If one were to put the external Viewfinder (the ones attached for super wide lenses) on top of the ThumbsUp, wouldn't the thickness of the ThumbsUp base alter the original position of the ViewFinder? How accurate would the ViewFinder be in that set up?

doubice Posted June 19, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 19, 2010 The difference in height is negligible. Probably the same as the height difference between the 'classic' M bodies and their TTL versions or, between the screw mount bodies and the M bodies. The changes in the body height have not made it necessary for Leica (or Leitz in the past) to redesign the finders. I would say that the same would apply when you attach the ThumbsUp to an M8/9. I have one on my M8 and have never noticed any parallax issues. Best, Jan
rennsport Posted June 20, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 20, 2010 Agree with Jan. I use my 24 Elmarit with a Leica VF on the CSEP1. The difference is negligible.
tdtaylor Posted June 24, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 24, 2010 I thought the same until this weekend, when traveling and doing some interior photography. Without thinking I put the Frankenfinder on the Thumbs Up with the WATE. For 15 minutes, while shooting some verticals of an atrium, I thought I had partaken too heavily of the spirits the night before- couldn't get anything centered, even after focusing on the parallax correction. In the end, I took the Thumbs up off, and everything was fine. I had never noticed this problem in landscape orientation with the WATE or 21 Elmarit, but definitely came into play with portrait orientation. On the Frankenfinder, I did discover that the Thumbs Up threw off the parallax by two notches (If I was focusing at infinity, knocked it down 2 notches and it was centered).
