Wrist strap?

I too have the Gordy strap on my X1 and I too don't like it. The leather is too thick and too stiff for such a small camera as the X1. I used it for a week and have now taken it off.

I you use it a little longer the leather gets a lot softer and more supple. Takes a while to wear-in.

Richard,

I have just received 2 of the Leica X1 wrist straps (I am using the other one for my DLUX-4), it is made and finished very well, the strap is stitched together in a curved form to follow the flow line towards your wrist when in shooting position. The strap also has this thin attachment cord as you described in another post so it will clear the section of the original Leica X1 case and allow proper closure.

The strap also has a little leather "ring" that you can slide up to safely secure the strap snug around your wrist to prevent accidental sliding off, this was mentioned as a concern in this same thread and should not be a concern case at all.

The strap is pricey compared to other brands but hey it is Leica, it is well designed, has the Leica logo embossed in the leather, and in my opinion in good balance (size-wise) with the X1. Let me know if you want a picture posted.

Hi Ferry,

I have a Leica wrist strap on order for months now and still waiting for it. :o

Till that time I use a Gordy strap I still had. I'm using Gordy straps for a few years on different cams and I really like them. The stiff leather when new takes a while to get supple but then they are great and imo they look good'n subtle.

BTW St. John's, Antiqua. Wow... now that's a location! :)

Like me, many of you may have 'excess' Leica neck straps hanging around (pun intended). They can be cut down to produce two wrist straps which still retain the original Leica attachment clip.

They are (nearly) as good as the original Leica wrist strap that came with the pouch designed to fit an M6+ collapible 50mm lens. I still have one left. The other (I had) was 'stolen' by a friend.

Richard,

I got all my Leica "stuff" from Jimmy Koh (Koh's Cameras) New York, he had the straps and spare battery within a week but I had to wait a good month and a half or so for the view finder. I really need the VF with the bright light overhere, sometimes I only can frame but will not be able to see the actual subject on the LCD. The Leica strap will get more supple as it is being used, and is almost velvety on the inside part (untreated leather I guess) I see you are in Amsterdam, my favorite city EVER!!! My mom is from Schagen a small town in the North towards Den Helder :). I studied and lived in Amsterdam for 13 years near Ooster Park and moved back to the Caribbean, Aruba, Curacao and now Antigua. I saw you had a trip to Bangkok? I took the X1 to Dominica for a week hiking, awesome travel camera and with my the Dlux 4 with HD video capabilities it completed the package. Anyway have a good one!

How nice! :) I know Schagen very well. Wow... from the Oosterpark to the Carribbean, now that is some move. I've only been to Curacao last year and I absolutely loved it. The climate is soooo nice there (in steep contrast with Thailand). I'd love to move there too but work and my little boy make that difficult.

But for now it's summer in Amsterdam too and the 'Sail 2010' event is taking place (tall ships from all over the World come to the Amsterdam harbor) so the city is at its best now. I just returned from a 3 week round trip through Thailand and only started to 'digest' the 600 - 700 images I shot with the X1!

  • 2 weeks later...
An A&A silk cord is my option for both shoulder and wrist. Knotted, I sling it over my shoulder and it tucks the X1 under my arm, which is perfect...if I want it on my wrist, I just loop it a couple times, and voila (though I rarely use a wrist strap with any of my set-ups.)

I was hesitant on price at first on the A&A silks, however, now, there is no way I would use anything else, especially stiff leather that cuts into my neck and is not flexible enough to double as a wrist strap.

To each his own.

Which A&A silk shoulder strap do you use? I see they have several.

Thanks

ARTISAN & ARTIST* ACAM-301 BLACK WOVEN SILK CORD CAMERA STRAP NEW!

This is the one I bought for the X1 from Popflash. Going to get another for my M. I have seen all the colors, and black seemed best with the X1.

Keep in mind this one is their original designed for the M and now X. There is another model called "DSLR" that is longer and for larger cameras. I prefer the original. Tucks the X1 nicely. You can knot is to whatever length you need.

I have the Leica Wrist Carrying Strap #18713. At first I was not sure whether the strap is solid enough to carry the X1. But it is. And it nicely fits with the Leica Leather Case #18709 so that you can leave the wrist strap on the camera and still can close the leather case. I have only two concerns: (1) the strap is black while the case is brown -- OK, that's just a cosmetic issue; more seriously is (2) the fact that I have to detouch the view finder when putting the camera in the case. I wish there is a case where you can leave the view finder on the camera.

Leica makes a handstrap for C-Lux 2 in different colors (including black and brown). The material is not leather, but some kind of nylon. It comes with a retainer, threads for attaching it to the camera and you can check it out on Leica's webpage.

I can't seem to find the Leica X1 handstrap anywhere in Vienna. I am currently using the one that came with another gadget in the past (don't ask me...)
