gib_robinson Posted June 13, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I used a Nikon SC-29 cord for off-camera flash with my R9/DMR. Is that the right cord for an M9 + SF24D or SF58? I have seen posts that mention the Nikon SC-28 but I can't tell from the posts if there is any difference in functionality between those two. I think they are the same length. Thanks, --Gib

gib_robinson Posted June 13, 2010 Author Share #2 Posted June 13, 2010 Found an answer in Sean Reid's review of the SF58. The SC-28 works and is cheaper than the SC-29. --Gib
lars_bergquist Posted June 14, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 14, 2010 Any old Nikon SC cord will work. I use a Nikon SC-17, bought used. Another option is the Nissin SC-01 cord, which functions with several systems and has an extre shoe on the connecting piece at the camera end. That means you can put an accessory finder into it. Guest mc_k Posted June 15, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 15, 2010 wondering if there is any shorter, lighter alternative for just a flash on a bracket. I bought the SC-28, but ended up using a couple of adapters and a PC cord.
lars_bergquist Posted June 15, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 15, 2010 wondering if there is any shorter, lighter alternative for just a flash on a bracket. I bought the SC-28, but ended up using a couple of adapters and a PC cord. If it is only flash release you want, and no TTL or other system functions, you could always go wireless. Though wireless for a distance of six inches would look a bit ridiculous. Bite the bullet -- the SC permits you to use the flash handheld, angling it in any direction. This is how I shoot my SF24D for bounce. It works. Read Sean Reid's 'Working With Flash' -- that may well be an eye-opener. And no, I don't miss flash powder either ... except for those times when I feel that the Christmas dinner could do with the equivalent of a SWAT shock grenade. bocaburger Posted June 16, 2010 Share #8 Posted June 16, 2010 Kirk Enterprises (the company that makes the camera plates) used to sell a shortened version of the Nikon cord. Don't know if they still offer it or not. BTW has anybody tried a Contax TLA-100 cord? It has the central and two rear contacts, but lacks the one at 2 o'clock. I'm wondering if it will still work, the Contax cord is a lot more compact.

RockyIII Posted June 17, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 17, 2010 Paramount Cords (paramountcords.com) sells a shortened version of the SC-28 which works well with a flash bracket, but it is kind of pricey. Rocky
