Hi,

I just removed my m8 from its case in some weird way there is a little black spot on the chrome top plate. I was able to remove 50% with just a bit of water but it seems that the substance was absorbed a bit by the material of the top plate.

The M8 manual says that you should not use any chemicals like petroleum spirit, thin- ner and alcohol.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Do you know how many people with chrome M8s lust after a black spot?! Must be thousands of threads from owners of chrome M8s wanting the 'panda' look... and you want to get rid of yours! Crazy times.

Hi,

I have no idea where it comes from. It almost looks like black ink! I have checked the bag but there is nothing in there what could give away such a stain.

It's just an anoying black stain on my chrome top plate.

I'll try diffent solutions of cleaning agents today and see what works best. It would suck if it would leave any rubmarks. We'll see,...

On the rare occasions I clean my Chrome M I use a tiny drop of Ballistol Oil.....now am sure that will have some people screaming but I am very careful not to get it on the glass and I just love the smell...works for me.(also use it on the vulcanite/leather as well).

A very addictive smell in my opinion..:)

good luck

Ahhh,.. The stain is gone! With a little help and advice of my wise and old grandmother!

She suggested to use good old fashioned pure soap! Apply it on the stain mixed with a little water an leave it there for a couple of minutes. After 2 to 3 times I was still sceptical but after 5 times the stain was almost gone! I would never think that a stain that already penetrated the material would go out with just soap and water. Another big plus is that my m8 smells great!

Thanks grandma! (and you guys)

I think Leica's advice not to use organic solvents is sound - we often have people here reaching for the lighter fuel, acetone or other pretty noxious substances applied undiluted. However, a mild organic solvent such as iso-propyl alcohol will be fine, as would a Q-Tip dipped in vodka.
