321Whitewillow Posted June 12, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted June 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) It says on page 127 of my Leica X1 user manual under the heading "For the lens": Â Â "The generally recommended lens hood also protects the lens from unintentional finger prints and the rain." Â Would it be safe to assume that Leica is making a lens hood for the X1? When can I get one?
Advertisement Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Hi 321Whitewillow, Take a look here Lens Hood-pg 127-X1 user manual. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carcam Posted June 12, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted June 12, 2010 Add me to the list when/if it becomes available. It definitely needs one for lens protection and flare control and it even has the threads available to put one on. I don't use the lens cap and carry it with a shoulder strap and have found a few smudges on the lens from my arm... Even if it is very flare resistant, a small lens hood will be greatly appreciated. Sausalito Posted July 12, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted July 12, 2010 Oh boy... add me to that list.. I use a wrist strap and no lens cap (except when it's in my pocket , so a neat little lens hood would be just the thing for me !!! Â peace, Â tom
h00ligan Posted July 12, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted July 12, 2010 No lens cap in a pocket - that seems risky to me. At that point i'd probably get the acmaxx stick on cover.. better to risk a slight bit of cosmetic damage than lens damage.

sungnee Posted July 13, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted July 13, 2010 I have contacted SK Grimes (who made a hood for the CM) and he said he could make one but needed to have an X1 to make the measurements. Â I'm a hood freak and I don't feel right if my lens don't have a hood, like part of my clothing is missing.

Where is he located?  Maybe someone lives near him and can let him measure their X1?  tom

(maybe a little firmer  We could then use a lens cap on the outer edges of the hood.  tom

What kind of impact does it have on image quality though, have you tested the X1 with and without and noticed any significant degradation in IQ? Guest MartinMann Posted July 14, 2010 Share #12  Posted July 14, 2010 This thing will fit  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/forum-zur-leica-x1/132008-sonnenblende-x1-selbstbauprojekt.html#post1384992
dw3645 Posted July 17, 2010 Share #13 Â Posted July 17, 2010 What about damage to the writing around the lens barrel...another user stated that was an issue? Â No, it doesn't damage anything. But guess what, I just decided to take it off and found that it was the ACMAXX giving me the flare. So, in my opinion, don't put anything in front of that beautiful lens!! nickma Posted December 28, 2011 Share #14 Â Posted December 28, 2011 This Leica aluminium hood fits the X1 perfectly: Â Hood for M lens 75/2.5/ 90/2.5 Leica order code is 12460 Â "Made in Germany". Â If used with a thin rubber seal such as a 1.9 - 2 inch (5cm) square profile automotive seal (costs about 1 euro) the hood then gives about 5mm of protection beyond the extended lens. The seal is not necessary but I like the idea of something that ensures there can never be any binding between alloy surfaces.
symmetron Posted December 30, 2011 Share #15 Â Posted December 30, 2011 Check this out. It works great. However, don't recommend using a filter. Â Leica X1 49mm filter, Leica X1 filter adapter tube, Leica X1 X-1 Adapter Tube
symmetron Posted December 30, 2011 Share #16  Posted December 30, 2011 You can also get it with a vented hood which screws right into the front end. Amazon.com: RainbowImaging 49mm Filter Tube Adapter + 49MM Vented Curved Metal Hood for Leica X1: Camera & Photo  I also got this half-case from Rainbow Imaging for about $90 which works great with built-in hand grip at a fraction of the cost of other half-cases. They have a range of other cases with different finishes as well. Welcome, dear visitor! bkxmnr Posted December 31, 2011 Share #17  Posted December 31, 2011 Check this out. It works great. However, don't recommend using a filter. Leica X1 49mm filter, Leica X1 filter adapter tube, Leica X1 X-1 Adapter Tube  I'm new to Leicas and recently obtained a Digilux 1. It with a similar Leica-branded tube and a couple of filters. I'm curious why you recommend not using a filter.
symmetron Posted January 1, 2012 Share #18 Â Posted January 1, 2012 In the X1 arrangement with a tube extension, there are spurious reflections when mounting a filter on the end of the tube. Otherwise, I always have used filters to protect my Leica lenses, when the filter can be mounted directly to the lens.
