Lightroom 3 Import Speed

I have installed LR 3. The release page at the Adobe site talks about vastly faster import speed. I am not seeing any improvement. I suspect that this is because I am using Ultra SanDisk cards, but I am curious about the experience of other users.

In Lightroom>Preferences> Jpeg Preview, make sure you have Medium rather than Full Size and see if that helps (at least that's the Menu in LR 3 Beta).

I am using minimal as my jpeg setting for previews. I couldn't find the setting under preferences (that is not to say it is not there), but it is built into the new import interface on the right-side of the screen.

 

For those who have used 2.0, but not 3.0, this new interface makes it a lot clearer where your files are going, but you still have to pay attention to what is happening because it is easy to miss or overlook a setting for the import.

Import doesnt seem any faster to me either than with 2.7- using Sandisk Extreme 8GB 30Mb/s cards and minimising the previews.

I agree- Import does not seem any faster, using either Sandisk Ultra or Extreme cards. I have it set for large preview, but that is the same as with 2.7- although I will now consider knocking that setting down.

Also there is sometimes a delay in moving from the library to the develop module and in using an external editor which I do not recall with 2.7.

On the other hand, I do much prefer the Import Window as compared to 2.7. Much easier to check the parameters and location at a glance.
