yeah,,thats exactly my thinking,i actually love my dlux 4 and i think the m8 will be a perfect mate,,,though ,I havent taken delivery and am having last minute jitters about the fact that come photokina, heck sony nex 5 the full frame sensor is going to be on every camera, and i cant get rid of the feeling as they stop production of this camera that i am buying a very fine dinosaur of sorts.I could still tell the dealer,I am just going to be patient, and stand in line for an m9

I guess it depends on what you need from the tool. I am not a pro. I asked myself what could I invest in right now that I could see myself using for years to come. I feel I have made the right decision. I don't really care what gets announced at the shows anymore...

...we'll maybe a C-Lux 4 or a D-Lux 5 would be cool. I see myself being able to do everything I need with the M8 currently and then the M9 (or M10) when I can afford it and cost to maintain it!

It's a very personal call. I found the users on this forum very helpful indeed. I carefully looked at the type of pics I've been taking. Looked at the Pro's & Con's of the M8. Considered the challenge ahead and it excited me!! Very happy so far. The choice of used vs new was harder for me than M8 or wait for Photokina.

It's hard to explain. The M8. Well to be honest all the M's are just wonderfully engineered. I'm sure you'll be happy if you've researched enough and know what you're getting yourself into ;)

I too am considering a used M8 purchase, I have seen some lower - prices ... but, lacking the Phase One software. Is this software on Leica site to download? Is it required to download RAWs

I would get an "official" Leica demo/refurb, those come with 1 yr warranties from Leica. Sort of the best of both worlds between new-old-stock and used. I've bought a number of mfr refurbs from Leica and other brands and it has worked out well. It'll be the [only] way I'll eventually get an M9.

Ok ,thanks Guys,,,I am going to be happy with my M8 with 35 summicron asph, which i get tomorrow after a 20 hr flight from Delhi!!!!!.I am sure given all of the vastly more experienced voices out there, that I will more than be pleased.I think ,having the manual flexibility is a good call,as I LOVED doing this back in the 70s when i had a darkroom and just fell in love with photography and the x1 lacks this "hands on" sense,I think as an onlooker ,and with the over the top box presentation etc,,I just would rather go "manual".I look forward to all of your tips and sharing photos etc,and thanks again for posting your thoughts and advice .(vienna leica shop one can order an m9,,,which comes out to 5500 dollars,,you just have to wait and then you have the benefit of the low euro,in case anyone is sorely tempted)maybe the euro will continue plummeting,,. I know a naive question but how can i upload dlux 4 pics from india to share here? its what made me go bonkers for leica,,,really it is quite something I think.

I think that is good advice ... "get an ["official"] Leica demo" ... now I have a question.

I have found:

M8 Demo - mint unused

-OR-

for $1,000 USD more

M8.2 Showcase mint Demo, unused

Both Demo's full 2 year USA warranty.

Save the $1,000 and go with M8 and pickup a used M9 a few years down the road????

8 vs 8.2 at additional thousand USD I guess it is worth the upgraded version (8.2 or as I see the cool M8 owners say "8u).

I see Leica New Jersey gets $2,200 for the (ALL) upgrade package.
