ajtorres Posted June 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I sent my M7 and my 50 summilux ASPH for repair to NJ. Briefly, M7: A-All of the sudden I was not able to press down the shutter nor advance the film. After playing a little bit started working but it gets stuck off and on. B-The frame counter has not been working properly for a while C-I would like to update the DX sensor that occasionally runs me crazy. Lens: The lens was sent for repair a year ago (under warranty) because the hood came off and to adjust the focus ring that was a little loose (nothing I could not live with). The focus ring came back much better but the hood came back loose right out of the box. Since I was sending the M7, I decided to send the lens as well to fix the hood for good. I received an estimate for the repair of the hood: US 300 and that includes the hood repair, to adjust the focus, lubrication blah blah blah.... Now, I assumed the Lens was adjusted and blah blah blah a year ago. It was working perfectly well. The hood is outside the lens and seems a very basic issue. Question: I am planning to call but I think it is quite expensive only to fix a hood. I have not received an estimate for the camera yet but if they charge that for a hood how much should I expect for the camera repair then? What is your experience with this? Any recommendations? Thanks a lot for your advice Alejandro

Thanks a lot for your advice Alejandro Seems to me that they have just quoted a generic CLA on the lens. I think you should contact them directly and specify the precise work you want done. It could be that to fix the hood they actually have to disassemble the lens, in which case they would have to do the extra work - but no harm in asking.
