3 little holes next to the shutter speed dial on the top

Close - they are the speaker outlet for the beeps and simulated electronic shutter sounds. If video is ever added, the mike will probably be similar holes on the front somewhere.

ahh thanks..

 

well I have turned all those beeps and whistles OFF

 

does anyone leave them on?

 

Talking of video...I read one review online that said video can be turned on via the menu..er no, I don't think so

I use the soft shutter sound only. Video would be problematic with the X1 because of the generally slow performance of the camera (high demand due to large sensor, but slow performance due to small size and lack of "muscle" that a large camera can provide). Of course they could compromise and add low-quality video, but I don't see anyone asking for that.

Doesn't sound like a valid reason for no video. They left it out because it's a traditionalists camera, simplistic in form and function.
