So I just received a second M9 battery and realized it doesn't come with the plastic snap-on tray like my Nikon batteries do. Do you guys just toss your extra batteries into your bag or do you have some kind of protective case/sleeve for them?

the small plastic bag the m9 battery arrived in and i chuck that in my bag. it's useful to put it in something to keep it free of dust and moisture, if nothing else.

Been using those batteries since the M8 was released. 4 batteries. I just chuck them in a pocket of camera bag or my pocket, or anywhere. They have traveled to India, Morocco, Poland, France, Antarctica ....... and ! well they just keep going. No stress needed I have concluded. Just use them.

Just chucked in a pocket of my Billingham Hadley Pro. As I now have three batteries for my M9 I will write a girl's name on each one so that I can monitor which is being used to enable for them each to get their turn. I find it hard to get through two batteries in one day now that the weather is warmer.

I use the small zipped pouches that come with some of the Sandisk SD cards. Fits 2 batteries at a pinch and has a split ring to attach to the strap ring on my billingham airport :)

+1

Perfect solution for batteries. You can get them for free with some Sandisk cards. Otherwise you can find them on amazon for about $5.00 w/shipping.

Count me amongst the 'bung the spare batteries in my bag' crowd. I've never given the matter any more thought.

Clearly, Billingham, Fogg and that Luigi fellow are missing a trick here in not manufacturing a fancy silk lined leather carry bag for batteries.

Luigi would bung his battery into a bag... ;)

I keep my extra battery snapped into the charger and keep both in my Domke FX5b. It does not take much room without the cord and I have a little right angle power plug so I don't have to carry the cord. Times when I go light, I just put the battery in my pocket: without coins or keys...

Me too. The bag is long enough that it's easy to fold over the top half to fully wrap the battery. Works perfectly.

I have put numerous extra M8/M9 batteries (Leica only) in various small plastic bags some ziplock some not since Nov 06. The batteries in a bag then go in a pocket of the Billingham Stowaway Pola bag. No problems at all.

I thought that the battery discharges slowly if left in an unplugged charger, please correct me if this is not so.

Can they be left in whilst switched on or is this the same because the charger stops after a while and does not recharge automatically?

I don't believe so, I have done this with my Nikon batteries and Dlux batteries and now the M9. Have not had a problem but now that I know about it, all my batteries will probably be dead...

This was a problem with the original M8 charger: if you leave the battery in with the charger unplugged, one of the LEDs glows gently - and can only be doing so by drawing a (very small) current from the battery.
