Dear forum members,

after long deliberation on second hand M8, I finally decided to go for a new M8.2.

However as there were no M8.2s available here in Singapore( where I am located) I decided to buy it from Willoughby's Newyork through Amazon.com.

My camera came yesterday, but has a stamp which says leica camera inc US warranty.

I am a bit confused if US warranty is the same as an international warranty- ie: if for some reason I have to get the camera serviced/ checked/ repaired under warranty conditions can I get it done at the local Leica Service Center here in Singapore free of cost as against shipping it to Leica NJ?

Also, am I eligible for the Leica passport warranty? Or has it been discontinued since 2008?

I am also confused on how I go about applying for the UV/IR filters with all this region issue.

I have written to the Willoughby's as well as Leica about this, but can any of the forum members who did such an inter- continent purchase share their experience?

Regards,

Amod

There are various threads on the topic of warranties (use search box to pull up many). A recent one discussed the differences between US and International warranties regarding transferability...http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/117297-transferability-guaranty.html This may interest you in the event you sell the camera in the next couple of years.

The Passport warranty has not applied in the US on camera bodies since the end of 2007. However, I think new US lenses are covered by a 3 year Passport, which protects against accidental damage. Best for you to get confirmation from the dealer on your situation. But, I think you'll receive US warranty (2 year) on the M8.2 since you bought a new US camera. I don't believe that precludes your using Solms for any repairs instead of NJ, but that's just my thought, not necessarily fact.

You also should be able to register for the warranty online. Again, your dealer should confirm details.

Enjoy your new camera and, with luck, you won't need servicing for a long time.

Hi Jeff,

thanks for the advice, will keep my fingers crossed.

My DLux 4 warranty clearly mentions

" When submitting claims under warranty please return the Leica digital camera together with the warranty card and a description of the claim to the Leica Camera AG or a Leica Camera Agency"

and then they state a list of the various Leica Service Centers worldwide.

I wonder if it will be the same for the M8.2.

Although I am hopeful.

Cheers!!
