aesop Posted May 10, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...cannot quite remember if I shot a roll of HP5+ at 400 or 800 ASA (don't ask) and I now need to process it. I am comfortable with my processing regime but, in view of my error, will a 400 ASA or an 800 ASA development time ultimately produce better negatives across the range? Or should I attempt to to mitigate by "middling" it? Any advice will be gratefully received.
Advertisement Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Hi aesop, Take a look here 400 or 800 ASA rating? Advice required. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted May 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 10, 2010 HP5 should be forgiving enough to allow a stop either way. Which is the most likely speed at which you might have shot it?
aesop Posted May 10, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted May 10, 2010 ...I am leaning towards 400, Andy, but there is uncertainty. Thanks.
redbaron Posted May 10, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 10, 2010 What's the subject matter? If you know which tones are the priorities it might be easier to decide.
aesop Posted May 10, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted May 10, 2010 ...critically need to retain the shadows in several low-light shots.
FiZZ Posted May 10, 2010 Share #6 Posted May 10, 2010 I always found that B+W film, no matter what is more forgiving if over developed/exposed. One stop never gave me a problem. I say go for +1.

aesop Posted May 10, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted May 10, 2010 ...I went for 800 and it went very well. Thanks for all the input.
